So I mentioned this before the season started. Now that we actually are filled up again, I figured now a good time as any for each of us to introduce ourselves. If you want to just copy my format we can all learn a bit more about each other. Maybe it will help with accoutability both in sportsmanship and getting these games in. We spend a lot of time between the games, summaries, scheduling and what not. Might as well know each other a bit more. Name: Rob TFS Team: Cagliari... but I am a nomad.... Flamengo, Stoke City, Fiorentina, and Bordeaux. I've been 'em all! Age: just turned 33... goddamn it sucks getting old. I think I hurt something new every day. Location: Fort Collins, CO. About 10min drive from the fires. Been smokey in town for 2 weeks now. Micro Brew USA though. Job: I manage a corporate events company that travels the US coast to coast. glad you joined the party on this. Passed through Jonesboro a lot in my trips down south. I always travel with my Yankees hat on and still wonder why folks treat me extra nice in those parts. And then one day someone actually referred to me as "Yankee." It was awesome. I should also add that even as a East Coaster back in the day I attended Space Camp in Hunstville, AL. I am a sucker for fried catfish, hush puppies, grits, greens... and everything you can cook that is Southern except ham hocks.
I have a uncle who leaves in St. Louis who also talks about the hospitality he gets in my town. Yeah, the food is great but I have never ate ham hocks, frog legs, squirrel brains, or any of some of the nasty crap some people around here eat. The catfish is really good though. If you ever pass back through we definitely need to meet for lunch.
My 15 minutes........ Some of you may or may not know that I work on the football show Inside The NFL as a researcher, editorial, AD, etc. kind of a jack of all trades. Well periodically I make a cameo here and there, stupid little crap like wheeling out the cake for Simms' 50th birthday, etc. never a "speaking part" if you will. Well two episodes ago, right after the infamous Monday night Packers-Seahawks game where the replacement refs blew the game and set off a fury off backlash against the NFL, I got on air. The replacement refs were THE big story in the NFL so, sitting in the green room prior to taping and discussion what will be on this week's episode, the producer decides that for the opening segment we were going to have a replacement host for James Brown. Well you can imagine my surprise when he announces that I will be the replacement host. So they made me put on a Cris Collinsworth's suit and a pair of Phil Simms' shoes and threw me out there. Normally the talent gets to rehearse what will be on teleprompter and also has a hard copy of what's on teleprompter. I did not have that luxury so I had no idea what I was about to read and hence stumbled in the beginning. I was nervous but probably not as nervous as I should have been because I was sure that this segment would only be put on the web site and not for air. Well as the day went on they never actually taped the opening segment with James Brown as the host and I realized holy crap this will air. My nickname on the show is Vin the Bookie but that is another story. I hope everyone enjoys it as I am a train wreck haha and I cringe when I see my bald, ugly square mug on TV and cringe even more when I hear my voice especially with my horrific New Yawk accent. They finally posted the segment on the web: http://vimeo.com/51090721 Someone tweeted after the show that Inside The NFL went from A+ to a C+ "because of that knucklehead new host Vin the Bookie"...laughed my *** off because that guy thought I actually replaced James Brown. As great as the experience was I know not to quit my day job! By the way the highlight of my experience was me calling Phil Simms Tea Bag in the beginning. The reason why I call him that was because a week prior we did an internet segment where Phil Simms spilled his tea on his suit...hilarious!!!....fast foward to the 7:30 mark: http://sports.sho.com/videos/1156
WHERE IS THE TSO PLUG?? Kidding aside, great work out of you. Working in television, I can say that I would NEVER get in front of a camera for ANY reason.
thanks! If it were live I would have crapped myself and did my best Ralph Kramden.... Humina... Humina... Core a apple?
that was awesome man great job can imagine how daunting and nerve wracking that might have been done well
