NC State Wolf Pack: Official Season Preview

    2009 Record: 5-7

    Coach: WisconsinSports414

Predicted Finish in Conference: Fourth in the division, and seventh overall.

Key returnees: Russell Wilson(QB), Nate Irving(LOLB), Jarvis Williams(WR), Deandre Morgan(CB), and Jake Vermiligo(LT)

NC State struggled last season, folding late and missing a bowl after a solid campaign the year before.

Team Strengths: Experience at the skill positions. NC State returns their most productive offensive starters from a year ago, namely, quarterback Russell Wilson. Headed by Jarvis Williams, the Wolf Pack has a solid stable of receivers who will be needed to produce this season.

Weaknesses: Questions on the front lines. The situation on both the offensive and defensive lines are dicey coming into the year. In order for their skill guys to fly around and make plays, both units will need to find a way to at least tread water up front.

Bottom Line for the Wolf Pack: First year head coach, WisconsinSports414 is not in an enviable position right now. The ACC became one of the stronger conferences in the country last year, and with all the talent heading elsewhere throughout the conference, this group will need to overachieve big time to have any kind of shot at winning their division - let alone the entire conference itself. The schedule this year is shaping up to be brutal, with eight of their games coming against teams currently ranked in the top 25. Right off the bat in week one, they will face off against the #23 Cincinnati Bearcats in a tough test at home. They face several match ups on the road against ranked teams: #25Maryland, #15UNC, #9G Tech, #7Virginia Tech, and #8Alabama. What this team has going for them is that they are an experienced bunch with enough talent to compete with those teams - or so the staff thinks. It will be a challenge to improve and return to a bowl after missing out last season, and this year could be their best chance for a year or so, with so many seniors on this team that will be lost at the end of the season. Wins are desperately needed, as the past few seasons of recruiting have not gone well. At all.
