Coming off a 6-10 sim season, Patriots management were looking to make a big splash in the off season. However, major cap issues had them with their hands tied.. Coach I. Win was looking to find big talent for a cheap price. First order of business, move Mike Jenkins and his ginormous contract and get something of value in return. Mission accomplished, asthe Seahawks gladly accepted him and his contract. Although, Jenkins put up numbers, the team couldn't affford to keep him. The trading of big play Gronkowski for cb Akumara softened the blow of moving Jenkins. Aslo a 1st and 3rd round pick was given for Gronk. With the pick, the Patriots selected their future qb David Wolfe at number 13. Management seems bent on not paying Brady another 24 mil a season contract.
Although big moves had been made, more cap moves needed to be made. That led to the release of cb K. Arrington, another cb that had produced for the team. Unsure of what direction to go as a replacement, a piece of good luck came the Patriots way. The Browns were looking to move cb Tracy Porter for only a 4th round draft pick. The decision to pull the trigger came fast and without hesitation. A big let down to the team was also tbe safety position, so the team traded 1st and 2nd round to get ss Charles Godfrey from the Panthers (a move that some thought was retarded but the coach has a penchant for picking up quality vets for draft picks)and 3rd and 4th to get fs Legefed, a young player with speed and above average cover skills for a safety.
Offensively, the oline was shored up at Lg with Z. Beadles in the Mike Jenkins trade. But the move the organization was most proud of was bringing rb Ben The Brusier Tate from the Texans for a 2nd round pick after the 2014 season. Tate has the rare combination of speed, power and the ability to break tackles. Another acquisition that the team is proud of is TE J. Hanna and free agent wr A. Roberts. Both players have made great contributions to the team.
Brady has eyes on going out on top but with loses to the Packers and Colts as well as residing in the toughest division in football, its not gonna be easy at all. Lets just hope Brady has some magic left in his bag of tricks. Only time will tell.
