I read them but where does it suggest that they SUPPORT what happened to the kids?

Its happened before. SMU's death penalty was only for 1 year, but they cancelled a 2nd because they didn't have enough players. I doubt it happens now because there's just too much money involved to do that, but PSU will be very very low on players by the end of these sanctions. The next class that would be involved in a PSU football team with a full 85 scholarships is in 4th grade right now.

I never said they support them. I'm pretty sure they don't support it either. But the idiots who said it believe that. There are idiots that think that every black athlete is a thug.

are you talking about the comments and tweets back to each player? Why even bother reading those?

I just noticed that they were criticizing the players for staying at PSU (most likely for things besides football) when typically most "fan" believe that athletes only care about football and getting to the next level. Both of these guys aren't stars but they're still getting these negative comments for staying when it had nothing to do with them.

So I just read that Penn State accepted the penalties to avoid having football shut down for a year.

There's no reason to think that's true. I do think the NCAA would've been even tougher on them if they didn't choose to accept these sanctions, but the death penalty isn't happening to any football program ever again. It hurts way too many other schools (i.e. what happens with the BTN programming or B10 title game? Who does UVA schedule on such short notice?) that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I remember a big debate in the chat box a week or so back where everyone was saying Penn State didnt deserve any sanctions and this was a criminal matter. I'm glad to see the opinions that really mattered(NCAA) disagreed with so many that felt that way. Good to see Penn State pay for what they did. Hopefully, the B1G changes their mind and kicks them out.

I wouldn't be shocked in the least if it were true, ryalaman. At least somewhat. I would figure that these sanctions amount to a "plea bargain" in a court case. Accept these consequences, and the NCAA goes easier. Fight them, and the NCAA goes for the jugular.

I saw it on the ESPN ticker. Someone FROM Penn State said that, can't remember his name, but he was specifically saying something like "We had our backs against the wall" or something.

And my bad, it said AT LEAST 1 year. So it could've been this, or realistically 1-2 years without football.

Actually, just read an article that said the NCAA considered it, but they didn't wanna punish those that weren't involved. So I'm not sure if Penn State just accepted the penalties to prevent further consideration for the death penalty or whether it was truly an option.

quite frankly, I'm sure that there are a lot of opinions out there. But we will never really know what the rationale was for the punishment's severity.

Which is probably why the NCAA came down exactly in the middle of the fence

It's been going on every step of the way. Check out the "Nittanyville" (formerly Paternoville) facebook page. It's hideous.
