Kansas 27 Texas 17 The Jayhawks get their coach back and come up with a big win on the road against the #11 Longhorns. The game began just like many expected, with Texas dominating the Jayhawks first by taking the kick back, that was called back because of clipping, but then on the ground and through the air, never even seeing a 3rd down and scoring in under 2 minutes on a Jonathan Gray run. The Jayhawks would throw an interception on their first possession, but luckily, the defense would come up big and pick Overstreet off to grab a little momentum. The KU offense would come alive a little bit and James Sims would take it in from a few yards out to tie the game up. Texas would respond though with another Jonathan Gray score with just over 2 minutes to go. KU would take the ball down the field and James Sims would score from 7 yards out with just over 40 seconds to go in the half. Rather than go to the half tied, Texas would try to score and would throw a pick. From there Jake Heaps would find Nick Harwell in the back of the end zone from 16 yards out for a 7 point lead. KU would elect to squib kick after seeing Daje Johnson almost run the first 3 kickoffs back from touchdowns. It would be a mistake and Texas would get great field position and later get 3 points out of their drive to go in the half down 21-17. KU would get the ball to start the 2nd half but would be forced to kick a red zone field goal to make it a 7 point lead. After a punt, KU would have the ball again, and with a 7 point lead, the Jayhawks would get inside the 10 yard line only to be stopped on a 3rd and 2 and forced to kick another field goal. From there, KU would get a couple of more picks, and be able to kneel the ball out and escape Austin with a 27-17 lead. Jake Heaps 27/34 234 yards 1 TD 1 INT Jake Sims 22 carries 64 yards 2 TD Tony Pierson 4 carries 54 yards ---- Hope we can get some recruits because running this type of offense sucks. Definitely will switch to the Air Raid next season if we don't get the type of QB we want to run the spread.
