Texas Tech Wins in SEC Country

Explodes in 2nd Half To Win
    38-16

Nashville, TN - After 3 lackluster performances to open the home slate, the Red Raiders got out of their comfort zone and played the Commodores of Vanderbilt 1,000 miles away. From the get go, the Tech defense was fired up and played inspired football, holding the 'Dores to just 10 1st half points. Conversely, the Tech offense was stymied by the Vandy defense and the score at the half was 10-10.

For the rest of the day, the Vanderbult offense was held out of the end zone while the Red Raider offense led by Michael Brewer found it 4 times in the final 2 frames. Brewer hit receivers in stride for 2 long TDs and the backs of the Commodores were broken. Eric Ward and Bradley Marquez each had over 100 yards receiving and young Michael Brewer ended with 321 yards and 4 TDs.

Defensively, it was a revelation. Dartwan Bush accounted for 4 sacks and 7 QB hurries (all cpu controlled). The Texas Tech defense held stud HB Wesley Tate to just 40 yards on 15 carries, and Vandy as a team ended with 9 total rushing yards.

While just 2-2, the Red Raider team has to be a little more confident heading into the Big 12 Meat Grinder.

    TCU 35
    UCF 29

TCU escapes with a win on a last second touchdown to keep their undefeated season alive. To start the game off, TCU was struggling. Wayman James couldn't find any holes to run through, and Casey Pachall was missing every open receiver to start the game off 0-6. After going down 3-0 to end the 1st quarter and watching his offense do next to nothing, Coach Shawn pulled the Sr. and inserted the Sophomore Boykin to see if he could get something going. It was not a good sub as Boykin could not getting anything going running the ball then his first pass was intercepted. UCF would take control and score on a QB run to take a 10-0 lead. The coach decided to leave Boykin in and he finally got the offense started, completing the first pass of the game for the team. He ended up going 2/3 on the drive for 41 yards and also picked up a few big runs, one of which he was hit and suffered a dislocated shoulder and would have to be removed for the rest of the game. The coaching staff had a choice to make, but decided to insert the SR QB Pachall back into the game. He would find an open WR on his first pass and TE Griffin Gilbert would take it 15 yards for the score to cut the lead to 10-7 to go into the half. TCU would get the ball to start the 2nd half and Pachall would finally get everything together, throwing his 2nd touchdown on the game Ja'Juan Story for TCU's first lead of the game. UCF would respond however with a long run from Storm Johnson to retake the lead. TCU would put together back to back scoring drives with a 6 yard reception from Brandon Carter and a 20 yard run from Waymon James to give TCU a 28-17 lead and what looked to be total control of the game going into the 4th. But in the 4th quarter, UCF would convert on a long 4th down and Storm Johnson would take it in for 6 from there with 4 minutes to go but would fail on the 2 point conversion. TCU would get the ball and put together a great drive. At the 20 yard line however, Casey Pachall would fumble and UCF would recover. Down 5, UCF would put together a long drive, but a sack would put them at 4th and 20 from about the 20. With only 12 seconds to go, they would throw a pass and the WR in double coverage would come down with it with only 5 seconds to go giving UCF the lead 29-28. The 2 point conversion was failed. After a short kickoff return, TCU would have one last play with 2 seconds left. Pachall would get the ball in shotgun and somehow, the CB for UCF would take a wrong stutter step and Brandon Carter would catch the ball and be off to the races. The SS had a shot at him but would miss the tackle and Carter would take it 75 yards for the touchdown and the win 35-29.

    Casey Pachall 7/14 193 yards 4 TDs

Waymon James 11 rushes 85 yards 1 TD

    Tar Heels Smash #4 Louisville

No way to describe this game other than total domination. The Tar Heels didn't spend long worrying about a horrid loss last week to Georgia Tech, and assembled an ass kicking of their own. Louisville was held to just 133 total yards on the day, only three of them were rushing! UNC won the turnover battle with +2, and Tim Jackson dismantled Louisville's RT breaking a school record for sacks in a game with five. Renner looked a lot better in this game, but he still needs to tone down the mistakes. UNC will face their second ACC opponent next week against Bulldog and his Hokies.

    #14 Miami 38
    South Florida 24

    vs USF.JPG

Coming off a big out of conference win #14 Miami looked to keep things going as they traveled 3 hours north to face The University of South Florida. Miami had their hands full nearly all game as USF would play them nearly dead even. There was only a 16 yard difference in total yards between both teams. The x-factor though was defense as Freshman CB Artie Burns was able to take an INT back for a TD that really helped the Canes solidify the victory and come out of Tampa happy.
