Pittsburgh,PA- Coach Jenkins scored a big upset in his debut as the Panthers new head coach beating the #20 BYU Cougars in a nail biter. Despite a focus on the running game it was the passing attack that led the way to victory. Pitt racked up 300 plus yards and out gained the Cougars despite a dismal 1st half. BYU led 7-0 midway through the 3rd when Tino Sunseri found RB Ray Graham behind the defense for a 56 yard score to tie the ball game. Pitt later took the lead with a 35 yard FG in the 4th before both teams traded possessions. With 2 minutes left the excitement began to peak. BYU drove the length of the field, converting 4 3rd downs, to score what seemed to be a game deciding TD. The ensuing kickoff was returned to the 33 yard line. Pitt had under a minute to drive 67 yards for a game winning TD. Sunseri threw 2 incompletions, a poor throw on an out route and a dropped crossing route before hitting Shannahan on a deep post to get Pitt. 1st an goal with 20 seconds left. Suseri felt the game needed even more drama and misfired on 2 more passes before hitting a short crossing route for a TD and a 4 point lead with 8 seconds to go. Coach Jenkins was upset with his rushing attack that only generated 96 yards on 32 carries, "we have to be better getting our runners through the hole, we didn't open many, we didn't hit the ones that opened up, it was pretty embarassing. We'll be doing plenty of Oklahoma drills this week that's for sure." as upset as he was with his offense Coach Jenkins only had curse words to lob at his defense. He calle every player on the defense everything except a Pitt Panther when asked about their performance, or lack thereof. What we can print is very short, "horrible." Pitt did get back over .500 which is a plus and stand just 3 games from bowl eligibility.
