Pittsburgh Panthers Game Summaries
I will begin to post them in this thread.
Pittsburgh 23, Navy 0
Defense carries the Panther to a 3-0 record
The rain at Heinz Field was thick, and there was little room for error. Pitt started with the ball and a few good runs and A pretty 17 yard TD pass to James Baldwin gave Pitt the only points they would need. A rushing TD by Jason Douglas and a FG gave Pitt the 17-0 lead in a quite uneventful half. Navy's offense was useless against the speed of Pitt's linebacking corp. They were stopped on two fourth down attempts and could simply not get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.
In the Second half there was much of the same while Pitt was on defense. Pitt's offense struggled dearly though. They were unable to move the ball consistently at all. Douglas finished the game with 3.2 yards a carry. Big plays by the defense kept the game secure though with two interceptions late and constant disruption in the back field for Navy's normally good rushing attack.
Pittsburgh 44, NC State 0
Pitt Defense does it again.
The story remained the same as it had all year, from the start of the game. Pitt came out and looked shaky on offense. They punted almost immediately but left NC State on the one yard line. Which led to a safety. The offense had not felt the energy yet as Bostick came out and threw an interception. When DeCicco snagged an interception of his own and took it to the 20 yard line, Justin Douglas scored 6 for the Panthers and made it 9-0 going into the second quarter.
The second was a quarter WolfPack fans will never want to remember. A drive led to a 20 yard TD pass to Oderick Turner. NC State fumbled and gave Reed a easy 62 yard TD recovery. An interception by Hargrove returned to the red zone setup a PA pass to Hynoski the FB for the score. With 41 seconds left a 3rd down pass to James Baldwin went for 45 yards and the score. Then with short time left on the clock an ill advised pass by Russel Wilson went to Hargrove again this time he was able to take it to the house capping a 35 point quarter and a 44-0 lead for the Panthers heading into half time.
The second half was extremely boring, no turnovers and not a single pass from the Panthers. One drive led to a FG and the clock was drained completely in what led to a final score of 47-0. NC State will be looking to recover in the upcoming weeks as Pitt will look to continue it's momentum. They are @Louiville next week to open Big East play.
Pittsburgh 36, Louisville 7
Even mistakes end up OK for the Panthers in win.
Pitt came out looking to improve the offense and quit relying on the defense for most of their scores. Opening up the passing attack Bostick came out and threw for 4 Tds but also threw for 2 interceptions. However one interception was worth two points as the defender was established in the field of play then tackled in the end zone by James Baldwin.
The defense remained stout allowing only 112 total yards, and 4 yards rushing. They extended their top TO diff in the nation to an astounding plus 13. Pitt returns home next week for a game against UConn.
Rain and turnovers make for an interesting game in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh 30, UConn 21
The turnover differential that has been in favor of the Panthers all year immensely almost wasn't theirs today. Pittsburgh turnover the ball 4 tiems leading to all 21 points for the huskies. However the defense forced 5 turnovers of it's own help themselves hold on to the lead, for the entire game.
Jonathan Baldwin led the team in recieving yards with big plays that led to 141 yards on 4 rec. He was unable to find the endzone as Oderick Turner was who had 3 rec 60 yards and a TD. The run game was weak as Douglas averaged 3 yards a carry and Bostick was sacked 3 times. The defense was led by Hargrove who managed 6 Tks 2 FL 1 Sk and 2 Int in an all around stellar performance.
The Panthers work on a shortweek and play at Rutgers Friday night.
Pittsburgh too much for Scarlet Knights in the end.
Pittsburgh 31 Rutgers 21
A Fumble by Pat Bostick late in the first was returned for 43 yards and had Pitt down early. They manage 2 FG's and following turnover found #2 TE Dickerson ALL BY HIMSELF! 46 yards for the score with 18 seconds to go. Pitt's confidence was erupting as it grabbed the 6 point lead and they allowed ensuing kickoff to be taken back for a score and lost all momentum going into the locker room down 1 at half.
RUtgers carried the momentum with a quick drive for a score making it 21-13. A couple of series later Pitt found themselves in the endzone and converted the 2 pt conversion to tie the game going into the 4th. This is where the Pitt defense took over and handled Rutgers for 2 key turnovers, and a third down PA pass for 8 yards sealed the victory 31-21 for the #11 Panthers.
Stat of the day.
+15 the TO differential in favor of the Panthers protecting the ball is a key to this teams success.
