Pittsburgh's defense lead the way to a 38-21 victory against the division foe Cincinnati in week 1. The Steelers sacked Peyton Manning 6 times, forced 3 INT's two of which were returned for TD's and forced a fumble that was also returned for a touchdown. Cincinnati fell behind 14-0 after a 45 yard fumble return by Lawrence Timmons and a 34 yard pick 6 by Terrell Thomas, but cut the lead in half when Peyton hit a wide open Jermaine Gresham for a TD (Polamalu bit on the play fake and couldn't recover). A Rashard Mendenhall TD run and another pick 6, this one by Rookie CB Chance Green who took it 61 yards for the score put the Steelers up 28-7 at halftime. The Bengals would score in the 3rd quarter making it 28-14 but the Steelers answered right back early in the 4th when Mendenhall scored his 2nd TD on the day this one a 9 yard TD reception making it 35-14 early in the 4th. The Bengals would score another TD pulling within 14 but after a failed onsides kick the Steelers chewed up a little clock, added a FG to go up 17, and held on for the win 38-21.
