Guys, I wanted to take the time to address you regarding league etiquette when a game is in hand.

We've seen multiple occurrences now where owners have run plays in the final two minutes of the game when their opponent is out of timeouts or has already "waived the white flag" refraining from burning timeouts and allowing the clock run out. Please, put yourself in your opponent's shoes. The playclock is 40 seconds, so three QB kneels will run out the final two minutes of the game. Respect your opponent. Don't call another play. Have your QB kneel out the time remaining.

On another note, if the game is in hand and your team is up by three scores or more with less than half of the fourth quarter left to play, run the ball. There should be no reason for your team to be passing unless it is 3rd and long and your team needs to attain the first down in order to keep possession of the ball. It doesn't matter if your opponent is stacking the box or calling an all out blitz because they're expecting the run... If your team is up big with less than half of the 4th quarter remaining, RUN THE BALL!!! There's nothing worse than being on the wrong end of a beating. Let your opponent take their lumps and move on.

Now, please don't confuse running up the score with the always controversial "clear path to the end zone" turnover that can and will occur when a team is down big and making an attempt to comeback. If you're up by three or more scores with less than half the fourth quarter remaining and a turnover results in a situation where you have a clear path to score, then by all means it is in your right to do so. This will not be viewed as running up the score only because it was a result of an opponent's attempt to comeback; and not the result of your intent to run up the score on offense. There is a big difference.

I also wanted to address defensive play calling when teams are up by three or more scores. Just because a team is winning big does not mean they are required to ease back and play soft defense allowing the opponent's offense to have free reign. Continue your defensive strategy as you normally would. If that means calling prevent defense because of the game situation, then call prevent defense. If that means mixing in blitzes with your play calling, then send the blitz. By no means is the defense expected to "take it easy" on their opponent because they are down big.

I hope this helps to clarify things, particularly for the newer guys who had joined the league this year. The key here is to put yourself in your opponent's shoes. Remember, it isn't about the win. It's about playing your opponent using strategy and class. Running up the score and stat padding will not be tolerated. Please reply to this post to confirm that you have read and understood. Feel free to reply with any constructive discussion if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks for your attention regarding this, gents.

Read and understood. I do have one question regarding the "clear path" lets say you're up big and only running the ball. Your opponent blitzed strong to one side and you run goes to the opposite and you break through untouched and have open field for miles. Should we just run out or dive on the ball or could we score in that situation?

    Absolutely agreed, thanks Doug!

    A couple of points...

The clear path rule applies to the offense as well. If you are up big and you ball carrier breaks free, it is the owner's right to take the ball as far as they can. Some will dive or run our of bounds, some will not. Neither would be right or wrong. A clear path is a clear path. Again, that doesn't mean we expect to see guys pulling out all the stops in an attempt to run it up.

Chew. Clock. In the last 2 mins, if you are just killing clock, use the chew clock feature. It can really cut down on the annoyance of sitting there just waiting.

    Thanks again.

I've had two players do this to me here (the not QB Kneeling). There is no shame in kneeling lol, once they have no timeouts or are not using them.

    Read and somewhat agree.

If it's third and longer than a few yards, I'm passing to get the first down. Not throwing bombs, just enough to move chains and not let opponent get ball back.
