Pre Season Outlook : San Diego State Aztecs The 2009 season was not one to be cherished by the Aztecs of San Diego State. A record of 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the MWC is definitely something that needs to be built upon in the upcoming season. With 18 returning starters from last year, Coach E feels there is no reason that his Aztecs cannot finish in the top half of the MWC and surprise some people. "With the new coaching staff, we are looking to make the guys forget what happened last year and start off with a clean slate. We are going to surprise some people." Offensive Outlook: The Aztecs will look to junior quarterback and leader, Ryan Lindley. In the past the Aztecs have been primarily a "go to the air" type of team, but this could change under coach E as he plans to balance out the running game with freshman Ronnie Hillman and senior Brandon Sullivan. Other key players to watch are: WR - Doug Deakin WR - Demarco Sampson TE - Alston Umuolo Defensive Outlook: San Diego State defensively is looking to do the same thing they have always done: keep their team close and give their dangerous offense a chance to win the game. The Aztecs were only a few heartbreaking games away from being a .500 team last year including a 3 point loss to Wyoming and a 4 point loss to UNLV. The San Diego State defense will rely on playmakers such as linebacker Miles Burris and defensive end BJ Williams to lead the charge. That is all for now, come back during week 7 of the season to see how the Aztecs are faring in the MWC!
