    Preseason Outlook: Florida International

Over the last five years wins have come few and far between for the Florida International Golden Panthers.

    '06/'07(W/L) - (0-12)
    '07/'08(W/L) - (1-11)
    '08/'09(W/L) - (5-7)
    '09/'10(W/L) - (3-9)

FIU has averaged less than two league triumphs a season and that's one of the main reason's that the athletic director, has brought in Coach Stewart.

"We're going into the season on a high note, we had a great spring practice, and are looking forward to our freshman arriving, and getting the new season underway. We're looking to take multiple steps in the right direction, and I couldn't be happier with the pieces we have in place."

Well those steps in the right direction are pretty steep, and won't be easy as the Golden Panthers are faced with a very challenging out of conference schedule that includes Rutgers traveling to South Beach, and tough road games at Texas A&M, Maryland, and Pitt.

FIU's defense was way too generous last season and must be stingier in 2010 if the Golden Panthers want to win more than they lose. Which is really an understatement as the Panther's D was ranked 119th out of 120 teams in the NCAA, so there's only one way to go, and that's up.

FIU's offense wasn't that much more impressive as they ended the season ranked 100 out of 120 teams. But, how will that ranking change with the offensive guru, Coach Stewart at the helm?

"We're looking to come in here and mix things up. We're going to run a wide open full throttle offense. I was a graduate assistant under the legendary Coach Joe Tiller, who basically was responsible for the spread offense moving into the Big 10, and I learned a lot under him. We'll definetly bring a basketball on grass mentality to the field, with a little bit of the pistol mixed in. We're going to keep you guessing on the field, that's for sure" said Coach Stewart.

    Marquee Players

    WR/PR TY Holton (JR)
    FS Jonathan Cyprien (S)
    K Jack Griffin (S)
    MLB Aaron Davis (JR)

    Pressing Questions

    * Will the Pistol offense, which was installed in the off season, be productive?

    * Can the Golden Panthers stay healthy?

    Sun Belt Forecast

The pressure is on for Stewart in his first season at FIU, he comes highly recommended, and he will be expected to produce. Will he? Only time will tell...we thing he'll turn things around and lead the Panthers to their first winning season..but only time will tell if we're drinking the blue and gold kool-aid....we'll see you at the mid-way point of the season.

Man, taking over a 9-39 team over the last 4 collective seasons is going to be tough! Here's wishing you luck. Great write up!
