The Cincinnati Bengals traveled to Atlanta for their 2nd preseason game. The Bengals made some critical mistakes when the 1st teams were on the field. First giving up a short pass to Julio Jones, missing a tackle, and watching him take it to the house for a 50-60 yd TD. On the ensuing kickoff, Bengals return man Brandon Tate got de-cleated, fumbled, and the Falcons picked it up and scored. Down 14 points with only 1 minute gone from the 1st quarter, things were looking pretty dismal. The first team offense got their opportunity and played decent, putting up 10 points in the 1st quarter. The score when the starters were pulled out was Atlanta 21-Bengals 10. A.J. Green was a non factor in this game, with only 1 reception for maybe 15 yards.

The 2nd quarter was a completely different story, as the Bengals 2nd stringers played like they wanted those starting jobs. Bruce Gradkowski threw the ball on target and the receivers made some nice grabs, especially rookie TE Orson Charles. The 2nd team D also had 2 takeaways in the 2nd. Ending score in the 2nd was Atlanta 21-Bengals 27.

3rd quarter was pretty dull, with neither team really doing anything great on offense or defense, with 7 points being put up by both squads. The 4th seen the Bengals add another 7 to make the final score Bengals 41 - Falcons 28.

Overall I was pleased with the performance, seeing as the first minute of the game was a catastrophe and was able to bounce back and get the win. The secondary of the starters and 2nd string impressed me with how well they covered the high powered receivers of the Falcons. The run game could of been better. Just one final note, what is up with Chad Johnson. He was thrown to by Hokie Effect like 8 times and the dude never dropped the first ball. He had something like 100+ yards receiving in the course of the game. Guess he was getting his revenge on his former organization.

    Great game Hokie Effect
