    Chargers: 34

Both the Chargers & Vikings came into the third preseason game with 0-2 records, and something to prove with the starters getting extended (3 quarters of) playing time. The first quarter was all San Diego, as they scored 24 points off of 3 Minnesota turnovers (2 INT's by Ponder; a fumble by AP). The Vikings would finally get on the board with 6:20 left in the 1st half on Ponder's first of 3 2nd quarter TD passes, this one to Percy Harvin from 27 yards out. However, The Chargers would stretch the lead back to 27 just minutes later as 2nd-yr man Joe McKnight beat man coverage, broke a tackle and took a Phillip Rivers pass 87 yards to paydirt. The Vikings would go into halftime with momentum though, as Ponder would throw two more TD passes before the break - a 73-yarder to Harvin & a 20-yarder to TE Rudolph.

Coach Simmons challenged his first team to get back the lead before they were scheduled to come out at the end of the 3rd quarter, and they did just that. The defense and special teams finally showed up in the second half - after a beautiful Kluwe punt was downed on the 2-yard line, the Viking D would tackle the halfback in the end zone for a safety, and then backup HB Jordan Todman took the safety punt 85 yards for the score. This was followed by two more TD passes from Ponder, making it 5 for the day to give the Vikings a 43-31 lead at the end of the 3.

Neither team's backups could muster much offense in the 4th quarter, and the game ended 43-31.

    Players of the Game:

    QB Ponder - 21 of 32, 345 yds, 5 TD, 3 INT
WR Percy Harvin - 7 catches, 172 yds, 3 TD

WR Robert Meachem - 2 catches, 106 yds, 1 TD
CB Jonathan Wilhite - 1 Tackle, 1 INT, 1 INT TD
SS Brandon Taylor - 7 Tackles, 1 INT

The Chargers went into this preseason game with one intention and that was to shut down AP. They were able to do that but they forgot about Percy Harvin and San Deigo's secondary was shredded to pieces by second year Christian Ponder. Coach JSimms must have given one heck of a half-time speech because the Vikes pulled off a nice comeback to make the Chargers 0-3 in pre-season (good thing none of these games count!!!).

Coach Danny Ski said that the safety-topunt return TD really took the wind out of the Chargers already disappating sails (That Punt return was well executed by the way). The Chargers are happy with their recent aquisition of Joe McKnight and he is making a case for not only making the team but passing Ronnie Brown for the back-up RB as well as competing for 3rd down plays with starter Ryan Matthews.

Good game JSimms. Good luck this year.
