Spectacular play by the Robinson brothers leads Purdue to victory over Notre Dame!

Coach K gets his first 'W' as the Purdue Head Coach, and there isn't a bigger win on the schedule as he brings home the Shillelagh Trophy!

Things weren't looking good early on, but Purdue knew what type of team they had and stayed calm. Denard Robinson would have no problem making up for his 3 fumbles in the first half as he finished the game with 410 yards of total offense, and accounted for 4 TDs. His younger brother, former :5stars: HB (#2) Brian Robinson, did his best to match his statistics as he went for the "trifecta". Rushing, receiving, and throwing a TD, Brian Robinson helped spark his team and overcome a persistent Notre Dame offense.

Notre Dame did it's part to contest in this ball game, and held multiple leads. The Irish 370 yards total offense, and Sr QB Nate Montana threw for 300 yards and 4 TDs.

After a 49 yard TD pass by Notre Dame, Purdue got the ball back with one minute and would try and get into FG range. Big play after big play, Purdue moved the ball down the field. After a 17 yard run by Brian Robinson, the Boilermakers would go no huddle, and give it to Brian Robinson again...This time up the gut for the go ahead TD leaving only 11 seconds on the clock!

Purdue loses first game of the season to talented Southern Miss squad!

The depth and talent of the Southern Miss ball club really showed tonight. Coach 1ke, as everyone knows, has done a solid job of recruiting year in and year out.

Their execution of plays was on point as well. They ran the ball efficiently, and passed the ball efficiently. The Purdue defense was no match, and Coach K will be addressing this over the next two weeks that the Boilermakers have off to prepare for Rice.

The offense did do it's part, however. Besides two turnovers, that were really just great plays by USM, Purdue racked up 370 total yards. 131 yards on the ground, and 239 through the air.

Purdue was not clicking in a lot of areas, and things weren't going their ways at times. Coach K wasted a time out in the 2nd half where he thought it was 4th down, and brought out his FG team only to realize it was 3rd. They gave up a TD right before the half, and to open up the second half a huge hit by Southern Miss' corner Jay Campbell forced the ball lose after Purdue had marched all the way down to the 10. Not only that, but there were multiple, anticipated, runs on third down that poor tackling allowed to get the first down.

    All in all, great game.

The Purdue offense was clicking on all cylinders. Even when they got a play for negative yardage they bounced back with a big play time after time.

Robinson showed early and often why he deserves all the hype Coach K gives him. On the first drive alone he rushed for 43 yards on 5 carries. Jr HB McBurse finish the drive off with a 2 yard TD run.

The defense came up huge at time, but it is obviously there are still things to work on. They dropped atleast 5 interceptions that on a different night could have cost Purdue the game. All in all, the did a great job tackling McGuffie and crew.

Rice just flat out didn't have an answer for Denard, and when it wasn't him it was someone else! On the other hand, Purdue HB McBurse suffered an injury that could keep him out as much as 3 weeks.

Purdue gets their first conference 'W', and the defense comes up with 5 interceptions while D. Robinson accounted for 300+ yards and 4 TDs.

After a quick three and out, Illinois' first drive looked promising, but an interception on would set Purdue up for a FG. Bud Golden did all he could to bring Illinois with in one score after a 67 yard scamper, but that's as close as this one would get. Robinson would find Freshman WR Larry Brooks running across the middle for a TD with 1:22 left, and would find Sr WR Arsenio Curry for a TD with no time remaining on the clock.

A late third quarter touchdown run iced the game for Purdue. Next week Purdue faces off against the Nittany Lions of Penn State. It's going to be a tough match up for the Boilermakers, but as long as they keep scoring they'll come out on top!

After jumping out to a 13-0 lead, Purdue let down their guard a little bit. Wisconsin was able to get two touchdowns in the last two minutes of the first half to take a 1-point lead.

The defense came up with big turnovers once again, and Purdue was able to take the lead once and for all early in the 4th quarter after Berg picked up a fumble and rumbled 30 yards for a TD!

Denard Robinson was injured most of the game, and it proved to play a huge factor tonight.

Purdue did everything possible to piss this game away. Two fumble returns/recoveries for TDs, and a kick return for a TD.

It would all be made up for however when Denard Robinson would lead his team to a game winning drive late in the fourth quarter! On the third to last play of the game, Robinson found Freshman Larry Brooks over the middle...he then fumbled the ball, but soon after Senior TE G Holmes scooped it up to save the day.

Purdue took the lead once and for all in the 4th quarter to preserve a Boilermaker victory!

The offese had success moving the ball (505 yards total offense), but a career high 4 interceptions kept Northwestern in the ball game. Not only that, but NU's Jackson housed a 71 yard punt return in route to a 161 all purpose yard performance.

Even though Robinson struggled throwing the ball, he still paced the team with 161 yards and 3 TDs on the ground, and 200 yards and a TD through the air. The most important thing is that Purdue remains unbeaten, and came out with a win!

It took the worst of things to happen for Ohio State to pull off the victory. Even though they had 5 turnovers to Purdue's 2, the two fumbles played a huge role in their win tonight.

Not only that, but they had two kick returns for TDs. Things were looking very good for Purdue, but when you give up special teams points and fumble the football you are going to lose games.

Purdue will still end up as the Big Ten Champs, but the young squad would much rather go undefeated in conference play. A loss this close to the end of the season really hurts.

Indiana was able to muster up a second field goal right before the half after Purdue aired it out and the pass fell incomplete with one second remaining on the clock. However, it was far too late by then. Purdue went into the locker room with a 42-6 half time lead, and cruised to victory.

All the subs came out, and the starts got in occasionally through out the second half. In mostly the first half, Denard Robinson put on a show rushing for 118 yards and 2 TDs on only 13 carries and passing for a staggering 237 yards and 3 TDs on 13 completions out of 16 attempts.

The defense held Indiana (Coach K's other possible job choice) in check by holding them to only 8 first downs, and not allowing them to score a TD in their three redzone attempts.

Next week Ball State will travel to Big Ten country to take on the Boilermakers, and after that it is on to the Rose Bowl to face Parrothead and the UCLA Bruins! Two great match ups that started back in the MAC conference!

After a 60 yard TD run by Denard Robinson on 3rd and about 5 on Purdue's first possession, and an INT returned 51 yards for a TD just a few moments later this game was all but over!

A big INT return helped Ball State score their only TD to cut it to 14-7, but in only a few plays Purdue marched down the field with help from a 40 yard run by Denard and scored on a 12 yard TD pass to Arsenio Curry.

Later, in the third quarter, Curry would haul in a 70 yard TD pass for his 2nd of three scores on the night. Ball State was able to add another FG, but didn't have enough fire power in the end.

Purdue's first great season ends on a sad note!

    UCLA 10 7 7 7 - 31[/CENTER]

The extra wrinkles Purdue threw in proved to only backfire on them. They didn't play as the same Purdue team on offense as seen in past games while running the Oregon playbook.

Denard didn't have many designed runs called for him, but was still able to make an impact on the ground rushing for over 100 yards with a 42 yard TD run late in the 3rd. However, he was sacked 6 times and threw 4 interceptions.

Turnovers were key in this game. Purdue could hardly recover from the fumble on the opening kickoff and interception thrown on the first play of the next drive. It only seemed fitting that the game would end on a fumble returned for TD on Purdue's second to last drive where they had a chance to take the lead.

UCLA's offense played spectacular, and at one point Kevin Prince only had one incompletion. The turnover machine that is Purdue wasn't able to capitalize on oppurtunities to make plays on the ball.

Purdue will miss it's Seniors, but they have just as good of a chance at making a title run and winning the Big Ten next season.
