It's been a tough few seasons for the Purdue Boilermakers. Seemingly after their heatbreaking shootout loss to Rutgers in the NC game, the wheels began to fall off of the program. Next thing you know Purdue began to struggle, enduring two 4 loss seasons in a row. After some good recruiting classes, things have started to take shape again and Purdue is fielding an impressive squad. After all of the disappointing losses, Purdue found it's way back to the #1 ranking.

This week, the Boilermakers traveled to Champaign, Illinois to take on the rival Fighting Illini. Last season Illinois came into Ross-Ade stadium and defeated Purdue, so the Boilermakers were ready for some revenge. The game started off slow as neither team could get anything going on offense. In the 2nd quarter Purdue drew first blood on an 80 yard drive thanks to good mix of run and pass. Ken Sampson pounded in a 1 yd TD run to put Purdue up 7-0. Illinois answered back, thanks to a 45 yard TD run by Adam Dawson. Purdue would put another 7 points on the board after Sampson broke off a 75 yard run putting Purdue on the 3 yard line. Brandon Sanders found Eric Cauley in the endzone to put Purdue up 14-7 with about 45 seconds left in the half. Thanks to some big pass plays, the Illini scored at the end of the half to tie the game up.

The 2nd half started with both teams throwing INTs on their first drive. Purdue finally got back on track as Sanders found Drew Stevenson who got free after his man tried to bump him. The result was a 23 yd TD pass putting Purdue up 21-14.

This lead was short lived once again as Illinois marched their way down the field with a couple big pass plays in the middle of the field as well as tough running by Dawson. Illinois QB John Tyler scored the tying TD on a QB sneak. Purdue began to make adjustments as Illinois was playing their safeties at the LOS most of the game making it difficult to run at times. Purdue began to spread them out, hitting a couple big pass plays on their next drive. The drive cultimated with a 20 yd TD pass from Sanders to HB Vernon Mathews putting the Boilermakers up 28-21. After a defensive stop, Purdue extended the lead on a 50 yard deep ball from Sanders to Crooks. Sanders noticed the safeties in the box so he audibled to get Crooks on a streak. The throw was a litle off as it went to the middle of the field but Crooks outran his man to extend for the catch and ran it in for the TD, 35-21 Purdue.

Illinois answered back with a screen TD to Adam Dawson who outran the Purdue defense making the score 35-28. Illinois stopped Purdue on their next drive, but could not get back into the endzone. The Boilermakers escape with the 35-28 win.

Fuckin crooks... Of all the players I've seen he's the one that's the most "faster" than his ratings indicate. I mean what is he, a 91 or 92 speed? He plays like a 96.

With the past few games I have been of the belief that the ratings are only approximate, and he would be exhibit A
