Question of the Week - Series 7

Series 7 - Question of the Week

Each series I will start posting a question for you baseball fans & video gamers to answer. I will start this week off with:

Does stealing a base in this game depend more on your player's speed or your ability/skill?

Well I just got done playing the CPU and I believe it has to do with the players speed and timing to take off. Willy Taveras and Nyjer Morgan swiped a base each while Cristian Guzman was gunned down by a few steps. I am pretty sure I had the exact same lead with them all and stole when the pitcher went. I gotta go with speed.

I think it has to do with the skill you use. Sure, the speed plays a factor but you have to know when to use the turbo and when to lay off of it. You also have to know how to slide, that's a big factor as well. I stole a base with Nick fucking Punto but have been caught with Denard Span. I think I had a nice lead with Punto and slid the right way.

i think its more of the players baserunning ability and aggressiveness. All depends on the jump he gets off 1st

I think a lot of it is skill. sure speed matter but if you dont have the skill and agility to get a good solid jump then you are screwed.

Shit, I shouldn't tell you since you're a beast already! Holding L1 when stealing or running the bases is like turbo.

Soooo many factors play into stealing a base. The opposing players ability to counter you getting a good jump. the pitcher being left handed or right handed. the runners speed. the pitchers delivery. the type of pitch. pitch location, catchers release, catchers arm strength, catchers accuracy. runners speed and ability to get a good jump are dependent on each other. too many factors to pin in on two things and sometimes luck is huge.

    It works for me.

I notice they run a hell of a lot faster when I hold down on L1. However, I get a lot of caught stealing because if you don't stop fast enough or hit R2 after your done sliding. For some reason the guy decides to get up and attempt to steal to third.

Anytime you run the bases if you hold down L1 it is like a turbo.

i looked at the book, did a bit of research on the internet and the only thing i found was mashing x but even that seems to be myth.
