Osi was originally signed as a Free Agent with a $2.1M a year bonus. While the situation with the glitch wiped out that bonus for as long as he was on your team, you are still accountable for it as a penalty if released.

4 years remaining x $2.1M Bonus per year = $8.4M Penalty for his release

Then i would like to get him back on my roster, he was going to make 4.75M this year and 6.8M next year. I would prefer to have him on my roster for the 4.75M than not on my roster with an 8.4M hit.

Let me know if i can sign him back for what he had left on his deal once FA hits? if not let me know so i can keep creating some more cap space

We'll make him off limits in FA so that you can re-sign him through FA for the same contract amount that he would have had for the four years he had remaining on his seven year contract. Jim is pulling up the data and will let you know what that amount is + the $2.1M signing bonus per year.

I pulled up the numbers for a standard 7 year contract for $7M a year salary ($49M Total Salary). In the first 3 years of the contract you have paid Osi $11.12M in salary (Year One: $2.79M, Year Two: $3.62M, Year Three: $4.71M), that leaves him with $37.88M left to pay in base salary.

His salary numbers (even without bonus) would have been $6.12M this season and $7.96M next season. If you choose to resign him for the remainder of the contract, his numbers would be $8.18M this season and $10.00M next season, because the bonus would be back on your books, as it should have been (had it not been for the glitch).

With that said, to get him back you will need to offer him a 4 year contract with a $9.4M per year base salary ($37.6 Total Salary - Not including bonus), and a $2.1M a year bonus.

So to break it down, you need to offer Osi the following contract to get him back on your team and avoid the $8.4M penalty in 2017:

    Years: 4
    Salary: $9.40M
    Bonus: $2.10M
    Total Value: $46.00M

Please let us know if you want to do this, or would rather leave him off of your team and take the penalty. Thanks!

Edit: Of course the reasoning for this is because all of the contracts are backloaded

you'd be saving $1M if you release him (after the $8.4M penalty)

Wow that sucks he was going to make a lot less than that on 2016, i guess its my mistake for releasing him without knowing he had 8.4m left on his bonus.... Oh well does this mean that i only have 141. Available in cap space or should i account for more?

It means by releasing him you clear $1M in addition to what your cap space was. Jim has all that data HERE.

You cap space on the spreadsheet (Here) is correct right now (with Osi released), and you have $6.86M in cap space. Where the release of Osi will really hit you is next year (2017), where you will get hit with the $8.4M penalty. So the pluses and minuses of releasing him vs. resigning him not for the rest of his contract (as I detailed above):

    Release Him:

+ Save $6.12M in cap space this year (his salary this year - 2016) -Which is already reflected in the salary cap spreadsheet
    - Get hit with $8.4M Penalty next year (2017), which is what's left of his bonus
    - His release alone would eat up more than half of the $15M Penalty restriction for trades/releases, potentially limiting other roster moves

Resign Him In FA to what's left of original contract:

    - You are paying him $8.18M this year - 2016 (as the bonus that was erased because of the glitch goes back on your books)
    - You are paying him $10M next year (2017)
    - You are paying him for 2 more years beyond that, if he stays on your team
    - You must find another way to cut salary to get under the cap
+ You have a serviceable player on your roster for $10M, instead of having an $8.4M penalty for nothing (next season)
+ You avoid the $8.4M penalty, freeing you to make other roster moves/deals

Im going to let him go and i will deal with the 8.4M cap hit next season... if i decide to resign him then i will have to cut some other players this year to make room to sign some players, so i will let him walk.

Now if i dont make any more trades or releases this off-season then the only cap hit i will have next season will be the 8.4M right?

Correct, if you don't make any more trades or releases THAT INCUR A PENALTY for the rest of this offseason AND the 2016 season, that would be your only penalty.

    Raiders release:

    Draft
    DT Jamal Thompson 4/4 - 1.88M/120K = 120K Penalty
    K Nico Bridges 4/4 - 1.88M/120K = 120K Penalty
    WR Dominique Stills 4/4 - 1.88M/0K = 0 Penalty

    Regular Roster
    CB J Allen - 5/4 - 9.80M/800K = 640K
    WR D Amendola - 5/2 - 4.6M/600K = 240K
