Week 1 of the regular season began with division rivals facing off at Candlestick Park home of the 49ers. A game that most thought would be a defensive battle quickly turned into a shootout. The game started with the Rams receiving the ball and on the first drive of the game 2nd yr QB Charlie Mosley out of Tulsa tried forcing the a pass and threw an early pick. The 49ers took advantage of the early turnover and punched the ball in the endzone to take an early 7-0 lead. The 49ers D look like gang busters early getting another big stop and capitalizing w/ a FG to end the 1st up 10-0.

In Mosley's rookie year we've seen him hang his head after an early INT but the maturity of the young QB was on full display today. After his team trailed 10-0 he found his rhythm. The 2nd quarter was all Rams as they managed to find the endzone 3 times. Two long passes to veteran WR Eddie Royal and a nice out pattern by Rueben Randle put the Rams up 21-10 at half.

The second half started out with an amazing kickoff return by Deon Butler. Playing in his 10 year in the NFL he showed no signs of slowing down with his ability to break tackles and beat defenders in the open field. He ended up with 4 kick returns for 193 yards! The Rams answered back on a 3rd and long and again Eddie Royal found paydirt with his 3rd TD reception of the game. However the 49ers never quit and quickly answered with a long drive capped off with 30 yard QB keeper from Kaepernick followed by a successful 2pt conversion. After 3 quarters the Rams led 28-25.

Rams opened the 4th with a nice drive capped off w/ yet another Mosley TD pass giving him 5 on the day. Rams D finally showed up in the 4th shutting out the 49ers with a crucial redzone INT from rookie CB D'Arius June. This allowed Mosley to line the guys up in the victory formation and take a few snaps to end the game.

Final Score from Candlestick: 38-25 STL over SF

    KEY Players:

    STL: Mosley 14-17 292 yds 5 TD's 133.8 QB rating

SF: Deon Butler 4 kickoff returns 193 yards and TD

i think Kaepernick scored from a 30 yard QB Option in the 1st QT. This was after I had to pause to get the crying 16 mo old. Rookie Hilliard got the start at HB avg over 7 yards a carry (64 yards on 9 att) Then he went down with an inj. Niners felt like this 10-0 lead would be good and to build off of it.

Rams came back with 21 unanswered points. CB JJ picked off an under thrown ball that help turn things around. Another costly pick when SF was down 18-21 hurt big time. Looking to at least get 3 points for the tie.

Rams Oline was the real hero, give Mogley all the time he needed to complete key 3rd downs and a few spectacular catches made the differences as the rams held on to their lead and after being down by 10 early they won by 10.

THe Rams DEF was pretty good too, blanketing Cruz and Green holding them to 3 catches each ( a few drops and 2 INTs when going that way)

Looking forward to the rematch I think WK 17!
