    Season Preview

    Offense:
The offense's success or failure will largely rely on the arm of quarterback Tajh Boyd. The redshirt sophomore has good speed so the Tigers will employ a spread look to keep teams off balance. An injury to Boyd could decimate the team as the only backup quarterbacks are true freshmen. As for the receiving core, senior Marquan Jones is the most experienced and sophomore DeAndre Hopkins is the most explosive. True freshmen Sammy Watkins will be playing in the slot, with fellow freshman Martavis Bryant seeing some action in four and five wide sets. Tight end Dwayne Allen (RS-JR) is another target for Boyd. Running back Andre Ellington also can catch passes out of backfield. He will also need to run the ball to keep teams from overloading on defensive backs. True freshman tail back Mike Bellamy is another player to watch. He will handle return duties and spell Ellington at back. The offensive line is the most experienced unit on the offensive side. Four seniors and one junior will be starting for Clemson this season.

    Defense:
The defensive line is the strength for the Tiger's defense. Senior efensive tackle Brandon Thompson is a possible early round draft pick, as is senior defensive end Andre Branch. Rennie Moore ( RS-SR) and Malliciah Goodman are also solid up front. The starting linebacker core is solid as well, led by MLB Corico Hawkins. The secondary also has a solid front line. Rashard Hall and Jonathon Meeks will man the safety positions, while Xavier Brewer and Coty Sensabaugh will play CB. Concerns on the defense mostly deal with depth. Most of the players in the second line or below are freshmen. Injuries to the front line could force the freshmen into early action.

    Outlook:
The schedule for Clemson is brutal with games against at Stanford, Florida State, Boston College and North Carolina, plus home games against NC State and Florida. Clemson coaches are hoping to surprise some teams after a down year in 2010.

    Prediction:
    10-2 (regular season)

    Week 1

Tajh Boyd had a huge first game of the season against #25 ranked Arizona State. Boyd broke the school record with 426 yards passing, including 5 TD passes. He did all this in just the first half, as the starters were pulled at halftime. After Arizona State took a 7-3 lead in the first quarter, Clemson rolled off 38 straight points. DeAndre Hopkins caught the first and last touchdown passes by Boyd. The first TD was a 67 yard strike that came less than 30 seconds after ASU took the lead. Freshman Sammy Watkins caught the fourth TD pass and he led the team with 6 catches and 178 yards receiving. The Clemson defense forced 3 interceptions and sacked the QB 9 times in this game. Defensive tackle Brandon Thompson led the way with 5 tackles and 2 sacks. Clemson's next opponent should be a tougher match as they travel to California to take on Andrew Luck and company.

    Week 5 at Florida State

Clemson drove south to Tallahassee to take on the undefeated Florida State Seminoles. The experts didn't give the Tigers a chance of winning, but the Clemson coach had confidence in his team. The key would be QB Tajh Boyd. In his last match against a top 5 school, Boyd threw six picks. At the start of this game it looked a repeat performance. He threw picks on the first two drives, including a pick six on his first pass of the game. He turned things around after the two picks. His efforts allowed Clemson to tie the game by the end of the first quarter and take the lead in the second quarter. For the game Boyd passed for 341 yards on 20 of 31 passing, including four touchdown passes. He also scored a short rushing TD. HB Bellamy added a long run TD at the end of the game to seal the win. The defense also helped secure the win with 5 interceptions and 3 sacks. Next up for Clemson is a home game against Miami.

FYI, I have changed my playbook from custom spread playbook to default Florida State playbook. I am no longer using custom playbooks in my online leagues due to glitches with NCAA 12. The change occurred in week 11.
