Cleveland Can't Overcome Costly Turnovers 1-0 Bengals 34 0-1 Browns 31 Cleveland loses a divisonal game on National television that they should have won. This game started out looking like it was going to be a blowout. 3 early turnovers by the Browns lead to 3 defensive touchdowns by the Bengals. 2 fumble recoveries within the 10 yard line that we're run back and then an interception returned 43 yards by Quentin Jammer had the Browns down 21-0 with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The Browns kept their heads up though as they made a concerted effort to pound the rock. They kept handing the ball to Trent Richardson even though he fumbled twice already. 2 solid drives to end the half lead to points and at halftime the score was 24-10 Bengals. The Third quarter would have the teams trading field position back and forth, eventually Greg Little would catch a pass where he blew by his man off the line streaking down the field with nobody in front of him. Colt hit him in stride despite taking a big hit from former Brown Lofa Tatupu. (24-17 Bengals After 3). The Bengals would score next as they hit a FG a few minutes into the 4th and then on the ensuing drive would return another interception for a touchdown, this time 52 yards. The Browns tried to fight back, scoring twice in the final 6 minutes of the game with tough runs from inside the ten yard line. 1 Touchdown by Richardson and then 1 Touchdown by rookie Joseph Shepard. In the end it wouldn't be enough as the Brown offensive that was in FG range -- after an astounding stop by its defense and a marvelous punt return -- would take itself out of FG range by allowing a sack failed to convert on 4th and 19. "We let this one slip away, our defense played lights out only allowing 6 offensive points, but our offense constantly turned the ball over. We've gotta get out of this mentality of finding a way to lose." Said Coach Alex after the game. Week 4: We Are Who We Thought We We're .... Maybe Jaguars 28 Browns 41 We hosted the Jags this week in a battle of two teams near the bottom of the league in the standings. Jacksonville had the edge early and took a 10-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Cleveland's offense looked like it would be shut down again, but in the 2nd quarter it came alive as they would go to outscore the Jags 21-7 and finish up 21-17 at halftime. Trent Richardson and WR Mike Williams really put the team on their back today and would finish with their best performances of the season by far. The Jags didn't cave after we went up 31-17 to the end the 3rd after Mike Williams beat his man off the jam and caught a fade route in the endzone. Jacksonville would fight back and bring the score to 31-28, but Cleveland rallied and scored 10 late points to ice the game and finish things up at 41-28 . "The team really played how we designed them to play today, we ran the ball effectively, and used that to put Colt and the wide outs in good situations to make easy passes and exploit the defense when they came up on the run. We need to keep of this level of play. " Said Coach Alex after the game. Week 5 : Browns Slip in OT to Colts Colts 29 Browns 23 The Browns played one of their best games of the season, they outperformed the Colts in every statistical category, except final score. The first half was a defensive battle as each team kicked 3 field goals to go into halftime at 9-9. Trent Richardson was the plugging away for the Offense keeping us in the game, but we couldn't convert those drives into touchdowns . In the 2nd half The browns offense was held in check , as The Colts would go up by 14, but within the final six minutes of the game WR Greg Little took over, catching pass after pass, making one acrobatic catch after another. He would haul in a TD pass on one drive, then on the next within the final 1:40 seconds of the game FB Owen Marecic would punch in the tying points. The defense did a good job of holding Luck in check on that final drive and sent the game to overtime. In overtime though the Colts offense steamrolled The Browns and drove right down the field, first down after first down and then finally touchdown. As Rookie WR AJ Ray out of Mississippi St. found a mismatch as he exposed Kendle Maeweathers weakness in coverage and ran the ball into the endzone untouched. Ray would finish with 2 catches for 101 yards and 1 TD. "We let this one slip away, we couldn't make a stop and its my fault we lost" Said young Kendle Maeweather after the game. First Third of Season in Review: Not Quite There Yet.... Win/Losses: A rocky start to the season with the 37-10 loss at Houston , but I feel like we rebounded well both of our other losses have been by 6 points or less. Strong wins versus division foe Pittsburgh and The Jags show promise. We need to tighten up though and win some of those close games . We've got a brutal schedule coming up as we travel to Seattle, Pittsburgh and then host The Ravens and Rams in prime time then welcome the 49ers into town.
