Through 7 weeks of football, the MTSU Bluea Raiders have picked up 3 commitments from MLB Issac Jones, WR Gerry Lewis, and ATH Tony Morgan.

Jones expects to come in next year and compete for the starting position immediately. Unfortunately for the Blue Raiders, it isnt because Jones is that good, it's because what they have coming back next season is nothing to write home about. Jones is a speedy linebacker who is decenet in coverage. He does have potential to become a good linebacker at the next level, but will need to spend some time in the weight room, get bigger and stronger while keeping his speed, and work on bringing the ball carrier down when he gets to him.

Lewis also expects to come in and compete for playing time next season at the wide out position. Lewis is a deep threat, plain and simple. He has blazing top end speed, and stands at 6'7. Sounds good, except it takes him forever to reach that top speed.

Tony Morgan, the 4 star ATH is the one Blue Raider fans are excited about. Morgan is a 2 way player at Kingston High, playing running back and defensive back. Coach Hickerson has been on record saying he may go both ways some next year as well. He has decent speed and a decent burst, and athletically he isnt OVERLY special, but he is a very instinctive player who plays from the shoulders up. Offensively, he sees the hole and hits it, will make a man miss here and there, and when a man gets to him, he makes it tough for them to bring him down. On the defensive side of the ball, he has the instincts and play making skills of a safety, but the strength and tackling ability of a corner. With that being said, I expect him to line up all over the field next year for the Blue Raiders.

Finally UNLV gets a recruit on the board. With Blacklund, and Waterman graduating Coach Bubba Gump made it a priority to go out and get a center. Jon Robertson is a 6'3 310 pound behemoth. While not very light on his feet, he is quick off the line and will offer Nick Sherry some good pass protection next year. As a high school senior at Poultney he only allowed one sack. Jon was poorly recruited due to the fact that no one has ever heard of Poultney, but Bubba Gump wasnthe only one who saw what a true gem this center is and will be. He will most likely come in as a true freshman and will not have to wear that dreaded redshirt, and being 6'3 310 pounds I doubt he will receive any "initiation" coming to Vegas. UNLV still has a long way to go in recruiting if they want to build up the team, but it's a start in the right direction.

    NIU SIGNS FIRST RECRUIT

Miller project out as a QB/RB/WR or LB/S. With rumors floating around that Coach Cieske is flirting with the idea of switching to a FleXbox One, Pistol, Shotgun Triple Option offense, Miller placement on the depth chart will be a telling sign of what kind of offense that is to come at NIU.

Brent Koch is a 5'11 182 pound back from Vienna, Va. Like Gump's first recruit Robinson, Koch is from a small town that not many have heard of, and was a standout there. 4 year starter at Vienna High, team captain, his high school coach had a lot of good things. He's great in coverage and sticks to his man like glue, the downfall on Koch is people feel he may not be fast enough to hang with some of the more standout receivers, so freshman year he will most likely come out as a nickel or dime. With good development he could be a starter by his sophomore year. With 4 CB's graduating this year He will be a great and helpful addition

Tony Terrell is a 5'11 257 pound back from Sandpoint, ID. He wasn't a much sought after back as he wasn't a standout in high school. He was recruited as a replacement for Senior FB William Vea. He will be a good back for Sherry as an extra set of hands in the flat, but will most likely be used as an extra blocker for the impact players.

Mike Perry is a 6'0 DE from El Toro, CA. A true bull rusher. He's not the biggest DE out there but he's strong and angry. Out of a broken home, he found football as his release. He had an El Toro school record with 28 sacks his senior year. When he committed to Coach Gump and the Rebels, he said since he was a kid he wanted to live in Las Vegas, and play for UNLV. Perry, and 4 star recruit from last year Kory Buchanan are predicted to wreck quarterbacks these next 4 years.

    Kent State Recruiting Report

So far this season the Golden Flashes have gained commitment from five prospects for next season. Here is a look at who has committed so far:

Jacob Richardson (Defensive End) 6-5 262 Murrysville, PA ***

Scouting Report: A solid player with a well rounded skill set. While not overly impressive in any one area he is above average in several areas. The biggest knock is his tackling. He is prone to going for a big hit and losing the player completely. He is also undersized for the Golden Flashes 3-4 and doesn't posses ideal speed for an OLB. It will be interesting to see where he winds up fitting in on the team.

Mark McDuffie (Defensive Tackle) 6-0 288 University Heights, OH ***

Scouting Report: Not a true 3-4 nose tackle but has a solid skill set to build from. Has above average pass rush moves but does not posses the speed to play end. Also lacks ideal strength to clog gaps in the 3-4. This is another player with solid skills but no definitive position.

Calvin Stephens (Fullback) 6-0 235 Englewood, OH ***

Scouting Report: Has decent to good speed for his size. Is an effective blocker, especially on passing downs, but lacks pop. Is a reasonable receiver but not spectacular. Has a good spin move for a bigger back but lacks overall rushing skills. Will mostly be a special teams and situational player considering Kent State rarely uses a fullback.

Clint Chase (Defensive End) 6-1 291 Grove City, OH ***

Scouting Report: Prototypical 3-4 end. Has very good size and can effectively disengage from blockers and make plays. Does not possess elite skills in any one area but is very well rounded overall. While his strength is decent he needs to get stronger to stand up to double teams and out muscle larger offensive linemen. A 2-3 year project but should develop into a solid starter.

Dustin Scott (Punter) 6-3 190 Dade City, FL *

Scouting Report: JUCO transfer with underrated skills. Has good size and great vision when kicking. Does not possess elite leg strength but is a solid directional kicker. Also has good speed for a kicker and can add support in the coverage game.

    Kent State Recruiting Report

The Golden Flashes gained commitments from three more prospects this week. They now have eight commitments on the year and are currently ranked #82 by ESPNU on their list of Top Classes.

Terry Wright (Wide Receiver) 6-1 195 Delaware, OH ****

Scouting Report: Polished receiver with excellent speed. Possesses a second gear and can separate from defenders. Runs excellent routes. Creates separation and can find holes in zone coverage. Has good hands and secures the ball well after the catch. Doesn't have great moves and is more of a straight line burner. Has the potential to start as a freshman.

Andrew White (Wide Receiver) 6-3 188 Trenton, MI ***

Scouting Report: Has good size an has the frame to fill out. Has good bu not great speed. Can beat most defenders but will not out run many elite defenders. Can get of the line well and does well running routes. Has not shown the propensity for making spectacular plays but is more of a solid possession receiver. Secures the ball well after the catch but is not a threat in the open field. Has good upside and could be a top flight receiver with some polish.

Terrence Austin (Offensive Tackle) 6-4 299 Gross Pointe Park, MI ***

Scouting Report: Powerful blocker with good pop at the point of attack. Can out muscle defenders and is capable of the occasional pancake block. Better run than ass blocker. Has good footwork back lacks the athleticism to handle quick pas rushers. Projects as a right tackle or possibly a guard.
