The UL derby (copyright pending), was a good one. The game was very even all match with spurs getting a lot of good outside shots at Alvarez but time after time Alvarez answered with big save after big save. The Espanyol fans could tell spurs were being lulled to sleep by espanyols conservative tactics as the pace of the game slowed to a methodical standstill. Lloris, in the first half, was not forced into a save. Spurs brought on two new players hoping to change the game at halftime but it was more of the same for the next thirty minutes. It wasnt until the 71st minute, when a defensive mistake, left Sergio Garcia free to lash home a
Goal to put Espanyol in front. This is when the game changed, spurs really piled on pressure, forcing Espanyol to become uncomfortable and if not for Alvarez with more amazing saves down the stretch (and all game for that matter) Espanyol would not have been victorious. Espanyol were able to hold on for a 1-0 win! Good game, josh. Well played! electrickeeper

What a game, the rain did not bother either team as each team looked to control the pace of the game. Shakhtar got on the scoresheet first with a power header off a corner kick from dede which forced Espanyol out of its shell. But in the 22nd minute Espanyol answered with some lovely triangle passing which ended with Sergio Garcia setting up gio dos santos for the equalizer. The first half finished very open with both teams looking to break the deadlock but into halftime it went all level.

The second half was just as intense as the first with both teams having great chances to score but neither team could find the back of the net. Shakhtar found itself with a lot more space in the midfield and took advantage, creating more dangerous chances but could not bury one. On the other end Sergio Garcia was left with a glorious chance to. Break the deadlock with not one but two one on one chances and could not finish either. In the end, a draw was a just result with two evenly matched teams. Great game, look forward to the game in Barcelona!

This was a really even game with Arsenal playing very patiently looking for an opening and Shakthar trying to remain sound defensively and breaking on the counter when they get the ball. Both team's keepers played extremely well making some great saves. Shakthar scored early when the ball was passed up to Lacina Traore who used some nice footwork to get around his defender and find Douglas Costa on the left wing. Costa got to the byline and crossed short for Traore at the near post. Traore brought it down with a touch and then tried to toe poke a volley around Szczesny. Szczesny reacted quick enough to save it but fell backwards on the effort and the ball came back out where Traore was quickest to it and he finished it in the open net from 7 yards out. In the 4th, Arsenal tried to answer as Balotelli worked a shot from the edge of the area but the rocket was saved by a sprawled out Handanovic. The ball was about to roll out but M'Vila got to it and passed it to the middle where Walcott waited. Walcott tried to turn and shoot but the movement was too difficult and it went wide of goal from 8 yards out. In the 7th, Walcott got into the box and fired before Alaba could get in front of him. The ball was saved by Handanovic but came back to Walcott who tried to fire it near post from a very tight angle and Handanovic tried to get back into position but Handanovic was able to save that one too and Chygrynskiy barely beat Balotelli to it and cleared it. Arsenal got their goal in the 12th when Dede left his position too early leaving Balotelli open for a through ball. Chygrynskiy was the only hope for Shakhtar with Balotelli running and Cazorla on his other side. Chygrynskiy tried to play the pass but Balotelli put it inch perfect where the Ukraine national missed it by a few inches and Cazorla tapped it in from 6 yards. In the 25th, there was a bit of controversy when Douglas Costa got down the left and tried crossing for Henrik Mkhitaryan. Vermaelen got to it first and chested it straight to Lacina Traore. Traore brought it down with his back to Szczesny and Szczesny just clobbered through the back of his legs, whiping him out as he was trying to turn and shoot. The ball rolled harmlessly to Walcott to be cleared. The ref did not give the PK and it didn't look as if Szczesny got any ball in the replays. In the 38th, a diagonal ball found Oxlade Chamberlain streaking into the right half of the box but his placed finish was too weak and Szczesny saved it easily from close range. In the 45th, Balotelli worked a shot but Handanovic got down to save it although it looked like it may have been wide anyway. In the 55th, a cross found its way to Traore who chested it down to volley for the far post but Szczesny again got down well to save it despite having his vision blocked by Monreal. In the 64th, Oxlade-Chamberlain ran the full length of the field and tried to chip Szczesny who was a bit off his line but it wasn't quite far enough and Szczesny saved it. Shakthar also had a few good crosses into the box throughout the game that their strikers did not attempt to attack despite being in close proximity. Manager Michael Woodward will surely be addressing that in practice and players will be running wind sprints for their lack of effort in key moments. GG Blaza
