Really slow sloppy game, which is exactly how Espanyol wanted it played. We wanted to put the fans in Amsterdam arena to sleep and mission accomplished. Bth teams got very few shots on goal, Ajax threatened on set pieces all game but Espanyol got the break through goal on a deflection. Victor Sanchez muscled the ball away in the midfield, fired a rocket which hit sergio Garcia in the back and deflected it into the goal, keeper could do nothing but watch as he dove the other way. Espanyol were fortunate on corner kicks with Alvarez making three big saves to keep his team ahead and in the end the deflection goal proved to be the difference.

Shakhtar showed their grit today to come back from being down two goals in the first 20 minutes. Shakhtar started well as off the kick off, they sent Lacina Traore down the left and the big man got a shot in but the ball was saved by Vermeer and kept just in by an Ajax defender to avoid an early corner. However, Ajax took the ball to the other end and got a good shot off when De Jong cut to the outside to get away from his defender and got off a left footed shot from the edge of the box which was parried out for a corner but the corner led to nothing. Ajax would score in the 14th when Boerrigter cut around Srna and got down the left before crossing short into the middle of the box. Dede looked like he was in position to head it away but he acted as if he never saw it with his back to the ball despite having his head turned and it sailed to Sigporsson who powered the header into the right corner from about 10 yards out. Just 3 minutes, Ajax would double their lead when the ball was passed up to Cuenca who took it inside of Chygrynskiy and then cut toward goal with Sigporsson running to his left. Chygrynskiy got back to steal the ball just as Cuenca approached the PK spot but his steal was nothing more than a perfect through pass to Sigporsson who had a tap in which sailed under the diving body of Handanovic. The rout appeared to be on. However, Shakhtar regained their senses and got within a goal in the 33rd. Douglas Costa got down the right but was dispossessed by Blind. Costa didn't give up and read Blind's cut back near the sideline and took it back. Costa quickly turned away and used his speed to run toward the middle of the field and away from Blind. As he got to the edge of the box, he noticed Traore making a run toward the near post. Costa lofted it over Moisander and in front of Traore who jumped and poked it with his toe from the edge of the 6 into the near post for a good looking goal. Just four minutes later, Shakhtar was back on even terms when Marek Hamsik was able to cut inside from the right flank and curl it around Vermeer from a bad angle with his left. A good finish by the Slovakian man of the match. At half, the score was 2-2 and Ajax had to be wondering what went wrong after a promising star and Shakhtar was counting their blessings to be back in the game.
In the 2nd, Shakhtar took the lead to conclude the comeback. However, it was through a large amount of luck. Hamsik had the ball on the corner of the box and somehow kept Blind from taking it, As he got about even with the PK spot but more toward the corner of the box, Hamsik tried to fire only to have the sliding Moisander block his shot. However, the shot came straight back to Hamsik and bounced off his shin and back out in front of him for a second shot as Vermeer approached. He tried placing that shot between Vermeer's legs but the goalie saved it. However, it ricocheted up in the air and to Hamsik's chest. Hamsik chested it down while fighting off a defender and put it into the open net from a tight angle. Very unfortunately for Ajax as good defense led to a goal still. In the 63rd, Sigporsson got into the right side of the box and let loose for the far post but he did not get his hat trick as Handanovic parried it toward the end line. Christian Eriksson was the first one there but his shot from essentially the line was blocked to safety by Darijo Srna. In the 72nd, Shakhtar completed the scoring and sealed the game as Hamsik cut inside and saw Lacine Traore running behind his defender with Toby Alderwerield keeping him on. Hamsik lofted it over the top and Traore chested it out in front of him in full sprint before volleying it across to Henrik Mkhitaryan who was running even with him without letting it touch the ground. Vermeer had began to charge Traore so Mkhitaryan was wide open for an open net volley and he made no mistakes. A nice display of control by the two players which saw the ball never touch the ground in the 3 touches after the long ball. Lacina Traore probably should have made it 5 in the 84th when he was played through but his chip didn't rise fast enough and Vermeer was able to bat it away. A few minutes later, another through ball left Mkhitaryan and Costa through on goal but as Vermeer started to charge, Mkhitaryan's through ball to Costa was absolutely dreadful and Vermeer claimed it easily.

    The game ended at 4-2.

Dortmund blow closing minute opportunity, and split a point with Shaktar. Weidenfeller played a huge part in this match, but his lone goal allowed proved costly, on what looked like an easy shot on goal. Hummels rose above Dedé on a corner kick set piece, which put the away squad up before the half. Adriano's goal came after he s allowed room I the of and snapped a finesse ball to Weidenfeller's left and beat him to the far post. Gg Michael Woodward

Arsenal secured 3 points against pesky Liverpool on the strength of a 33rd minute goal from Mario Balotelli. Both sides came out looking to get a touch on the ball, and were in no hurry to storm forward. After a few games on the bench, Gohkan Inler returned to the side and partnered will with M'Vila and Cazorla in the middle of the park. In the 33rd, Cazorla did a quick stepover and blew past Gerrard, dragging the Liverpool CB's with him. Balotelli made an angled run to the far post and had an easy volley on Cazorlas dinked pass. Both sides would have some shots on target in the second half, but neither scored and the game ended 1-nil to the Arsenal. GG eheskey11

Arsenal put 2 past Gigi Buffon in the second half to beat Juventus 2-0. Juve looked to play down the flanks, using the engines of Marchisio and Neymar to pump crosses into the area. The Arsenal defense was up to task, marking tightly and winning balls out of the air. In the 2nd half, Jovetic threaded a sliderule through ball to Gervinho, who raced past his marker and slotted home the opener. Juve fought back, but big Pablo Osvaldo slotted a second goal home for Arsenal for the final goal of the match. GG ConiglioSG

Dortmund coach rues second half swap, levied a point leaving Spanish side RCD Espanyol.

Coach Jon MK made a dreadful swap in the second half taking MoM Gündogan off in favor of Jose Callejon. The head said, "[Jose] needs to come onto the pitch with more consistency. I thought I saw a player ready to expose his talent on a weekly basis." Dortmund looked excellent early on, moving the ball with fluidity toward Espanyol's goal. First half pressure had crisp passing in short spaces, resulting in a shot by Gotze wind up too close to RCD GK Alvarez. This would be a large story line of this game. A 6th minute cross by Gündogan found the head of Błasczcykowski, again directly toward Alvarez. An opening appeared in front of Gotze in the 41st minute, but was saved. On the clear, Gündogan stepped up to intercepted a dribble and took an attempt on goal, the shot deflected and caught Alvarez on his wrong foot and went in. Dortmund's defense started to squeeze and as the midfield compress the German side began to find less space, as the aggressive Spanish side made many of its 29 completed tackles in the second half. RCD found an equalizer when Zavala patiently waited for Sergio Garcia to make his run, and he scored easily after the ball through was past the defense. Reus was stymied on a shot from distance, Alvarez made an acrobatic save and parried the shot over. GG @f | wence2 | s

This game started out a little shaky for the home squad on a rainy Tuesday evening. The contenders for the league title were smoothly moving around a jittery Dortmund squad. Minutes after kick off, Holtby nearly smashed a shot past a diving
Weidenfeller, only to be denied, with the ball barely deflecting wide. Weidenfeller showed no sign nerves, he won his man of the man trophy in the first half, intercepting crosses, parrying dangerous ones and stopping shots. Tevez nearly slid one under the charging keeper, again he came up big and stopped the opportunity. The German goalkeeper showed his elite athleticism when tevez had a shot partially blocked, Weidenfeller dove and caught the deflection and made it look easy. Late in the half, a strange call against the away team put Reus on the ball for a free kick. Reus, from 19 yards smashed his attempt off the bar. The German starlet must have gotten horny for goals after the half, as Dortmund appeared to begin dominating the match. Reus made him self available lower in the formation and began to use his skill on and off the ball to become a dangerous forward. After making a quick move around two Tottenham defenders, his shot nearly beat Hugo Lloris. In the 57th minute, Gudogan lofted a ball over a collapsing Dortmund defense, opting to go to Cesc instead of Reus in the box. Cesc Fabregas' attempted a volley but Lloris closed the space between him and the ball and saved the shot. Reus' goal broke the match, coming in the 69th minute, when Mario Gotze attempted a shot on goal but Reus's run across the goal mouth ended up deflecting the ball in. Błasczcykowski got himself free in the 73rd minute, and Grobkruetz put a ground ball through the legs of Pogba and onto the foot of Błasczcykowski, who let a Tottenham defender slide in front of him on a hesitation move, and slam a goal past Lloris. Tottenham would try to threaten late but Weidenfeller shut down any chance. GG electrickeeper
