Haha... Yeah... It's like visiting another country out on the pitch. Were you on the main field? There have been kids practices going on until 8 most nights.
It's about time for the indoor seasons to start... I know my team will be signing up for fall and winter sessions...interest is high since we've had successful summer leagues and tourneys. Anybody else doing indoor?
I play indoor when I can. Unfortunately the leagues aren't ran as well as they used to, so currently I am not in one. But I like indoor better than outdoor in general, especially since this is South Florida. Plus my skills fit indoor style a lot better. A friend of mine (teammate as well) is trying to convince the management to run a league of our own for a reasonable price. I am crossing my fingers for that to go through.
I've always done a league down here in Columbus around Easton...cost usually comes out to about $40/player for a 8 game season. Indoor you get a ton more touches on the ball as well, very helpful in getting better.
Not doing it now but I was playing nearly year round a couple years ago. We have a couple places up here that do leagues for $50 per person or so depending on the size of our team. Small field makes it a bit more interesting when I was in goal.
Indoor is huge up here in anchorage. I've normally played just men's league but this session I'm gonna give coed a try. Also gonna stray from my usual keeper spot. Should be very interesting.
You guys have frikking cheap deals. Here it's about $10 a game. There is a place with $7 pickup, but 25 people show up for a field that carries 10, and it's far enough that it's not worth it for me to go all the way there to sit on the side.
So last night was interesting. I broke my nose for the 4th time playing soccer. It hurt like a mofo. I could feel how cricked it was just feeling it with my hand. Ran to the bathroom and checked, it was way more cricked from before. People insisted I go to a hospital but I insisted I keep on playing. The next part, if I hadn't seen it with my eyes, I wouldn't really believe it, so I don't expect you guys to believe but here's how it went. I'm chilling in the back with a little pack of ice in my hand, constantly checking my nose. It had cracked big time, people were like damn I heard the noise. So I started cracking it back to its previous place. And I fixed a nice part of it. At the end of the game people were like it looks healed It looked so cricked originally that my motivation was, I can't let it settle like this. I checked back in the mirror, it was a looking a lot better. My wife says it's still looks a little worse than how it was before. I'm gonna try to get an appointment with my nose doc in a few mins, they're not answering the phone yet. Figured I'd share my little story while I wait.
This is awesome. The Richuation I literally got a good kick when I read your first post but I better not laugh hard. I'm going to my first indoor pickup game this Sunday. I'm nervous, but after reading this post I think It's going to be well worth it.
What ever happened here? Did you start playing? I can't believe that I have been playing for two years now. Time flies.
I'll also be playing with them the next 4 weeks. Was good fun. I had to take off early, so I won't spoil the ending, I'll let The Richuation take care of getting a write up. We planned on doing a TFL style recap, but I don't think either of us scored, so that wouldn't do us much good.
Love all the experiences everyone has posted here. I am 42 and going to play soccer for the first time this spring in a recreational league. I Have never really played soccer except when I was like 16 with some friends. I have played sports all my life but have never been so nervous going in to a season because I really have no idea what to expect. When I was young there was no soccer in high schools or youth leagues near where I lived so soccer really wasn't an option. I watch soccer religiously and for the past two years have been trying to find a way to play. Luckily, where I recently moved, Jonesboro Arkansas has an adult soccer league and I finally have the courage to give it a shot. Its kind of one of those things you always wanted to do but didn't have the courage to try. Hopefully, even with some ups and downs, this league will be something I can participate in for years to come. Thanks for posting all the advice here and good luck to anyone else who is brave enough to take the step.
Can someone please tell me if this is a good shoe and if it is ok for a new guy with no experience to walk out there with some flashy looking colored shoe and not look like an idiot? http://www.soccer.com/IWCatProductP...4294960675 427 4294959028&Product_Id=17086475
That's a nice pair, although be prepared for blisters on the back of your heel. The back plate is pretty stiff and tends to rub up against the back of your foot pretty bad. I would suggest just playing with it and moving that back piece around a lot to try to loosen it up a bit. They're going to be pretty light and thin, which I liked when I had a pair of the more expensive version.
Almost 35 years of playing soccer, unless you're a pro that's sponsored, it doesn't really make a big difference. I stick around the $50-$70 (after discounts, outlets price, etc) versions. What matters is the fit and how broken the shoe is. I've hated the way Nike fits me, my feet are Adidas feet. Lately I've been loving the Predator/Predito series. They come so broken in and soft, some versions don't ever give you blisters. If Adidas is a good fit for you, I recommend those.
For the first time since i moved out of AK (to only come back), i'm missing at least one session of soccer. My last experience to note: My buddy absolutely rallied a guy in the box when he didn't even need to resulting in a PK. Dude who took it freakin rocketed it. I read exactly where he was going, but that shit had so much pace that it still beat me. Dude was awesome enough to say "you had me pegged, i got lucky" after the game.
I usually say things like "in yo face bitch" in occasions like that. It helps me with the next PK against the same guy.
