Fort Worth, TX -
The TCU Horned Frogs did it. They pulled off the first major upset in new Coach Art Vandalay's tenure, with a 31-14 victory over the Texas Longhorns. While the Frogs won their first two games under Vandalay with a wide-open, spread attack, they went conservative against the Horns.
"We have to be realistic with respect to our talents," Vandalay said after the game. "The University of Texas is an iconic institution, especially for football. They simply have more talent than us at this point. So we had to carefully choose how we were going to attack them. And it worked.
"Our offense did a great job controlling the ball. We did have one turnover, but that was the special teams. (Casey) Pachall protected the ball and made the right audibles all game long. But it was our defense that came up big today. Obviously, when your "D" can stake you with 2 pick-sixes, they are doing their job very well."
The other offensive star was RB Waymon James, who totaled 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Texas actually did a great job corralling him for the first three quarters, but in the end, James was able to break away for a game-clinching 54 yard scamper.
The Frogs are now 7-4 and in position to make a run at a second-tier bowl game. Their final regular season game will be in Lubbock against Texas Tech (2-8).
