Rocky Top Rollin': 2010 Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee Shocks #4 Oregon at the Zoo

Eugene, OR- The Ducks were supposed to wipe the floor with the rebuilding Vols. It seems Tennessee didn't get that part of the message as they started the season off with a bang by shocking the #4 Ducks at home, 31-14.

The Vols dominated this one from the start. Led by their ground game (T.Poole 30att 128yds 1TD) the Vols struck early on a Simms scramble from 7 yards out. The Ducks offense would stall but their defense would answer the bell as Oregon's SS Marvin Johnson would pick a Simms pass off and return it 22 yards to knot the score at 7.

Both defenses stepped up for the rest of the first half that Tennessee clearly dominated. The Vols managed to tack on a FG with no time remaining in the first half as they took a 10-7 lead into the locker room.

Tennessee would ride the momentum train to start the 3rd quarter. A 23 yard scamper by T.Poole extended their lead to 17-7 early in the 3rd period. After a defensive stop, Simms would connect with G.Jones on a 78 yard connection to leave the Autzen Zoo shocked. The visitors from SEC country suddenly had a 24-7 lead midway through the quarter. Oregon's Kenjon Barner would give the Ducks one last gasp as his 80 yard run would cut the score to 24-14 heading into the fourth.

With the lead at 10 the Tennessee defense took over. It frustrated the Oregon offense for the entire fourth quarter before Simms connected with DaRick Rogers from 22 yards out to seal this one with just over 2 minutes remaining.

The Vols started the season with an impressive victory and face Idaho next week. The Vols will hopefully perfect on some miscues this week and show the country that maybe they will have a fighting chance in the strong SEC.
