Gentlemen, over the past couple of seasons we have been receiving communication from multiple owners regarding their concerns of the use of the run commit feature on defense. For those of you who do not know what the run commit feature is, that is when you audible your defense to blitz the house prior to the snap by holding down L2 and pushing the right analog stick down. It basically puts the defense into an all or nothing mode and makes for very unrealistic situations during the game.

The run commit feature is all fine and good if you want to pressure your opponent, particularly on a run play. However, the run commit feature should only be used at the APPROPRIATE situations when you are anticipating the run. Examples of this would be if it is a goalline situation (10 yards from the goalline or withn - and that is being generous), a third or fourth down situation where your opponent has 2 yards or less to attain the first down, or anytime in the final two minutes where your opponent is running the ball to burn clock. I cannot think of any game situation other than those where the run commit would be appropriate and/or necessary.

Far too often we are hearing about the run commit being used at any time during the game. This should not be done as it is not really what we are about in the league. If you are doing so, please stop. This post is not intended to call anyone out, but rather, it is to shed some light on the topic. Thanks for your attention regarding this. Please feel free to generate some good, CONSTRUCTIVE discussion regarding this topic so that we are all on the same page. Please don't make us need to come up with another gameplay rule. :wtf:

Personally, i'm not a fan of it myself but i don't mind if it's used sparingly or when down and distance may dictate it.

I haven't seen too many people run that in the league, personally. So I never really have and always thought it was frowned upon.

I, personally, never use the feature. Quite honestly, my personal opinion is that the only time it should be used is at the goal line with 2 yards or less.

ok, i can honstly say that i use this feature and on a slightly more than sparing basis. however i rarely "run commit" unless its obvious that the are running and have become predictable. more often than not i am actually "pass" committing, i dont know if the results are effective or not.

as for the run commit thing. seriously people, just relax on the abusing of gameplay options, its there use it, but use it the way it was intended. im surprised that even with the group we have new need actual rules to tell us wether or not were sim...

Dont even know what this feature is ergo never used it... I wouldn't know what to look for on other end of people using it. If you want to blitz all your players at my line on a whim or a read... I'd hope I'd bite you in the ass quickly over it via play calling. If some lone ranger is button mashing constantly with a feature 85%+ people don't know about...that's disappointing.

It's pretty obvious when people use it. Either all their players will crash the middle, or all quickly break/crash either left or right. If they guess wrong, they're pretty much f'd.

lol it looks like the old Tecmo Bowl all 11 players on the team blast forward through the line, like when you used to pick the opponents play in that game, it looks stupid lol and I never use it

I have used the run commit feature as a desperation move when trying to stop a short distance for a 1st down late in the game and 9 times out of 10 it has failed in my experience

I've never used this feature but have had it done to me. I found it easy to burn the defense by coming out in the same formation and running off tackle or toss play or a quick pass to the flat and getting huge yardage. I don't think I've used run or pass committ since like Madden 06

I have used it, and people STILL break thru. What seems unrealistic to me is how anyone can score from 2yds out with all 11 guys bearing down on him... :p

I use it on goal line and nine times out of ten.. Ppl score on me because I commit to the wrong side or they end up throwing it for the score. I've used it on 3rd and short as well...it doesn't seem to be a difference maker to me

The feature don't work like its suppose to. Its real easy to burn because if you called it up the middle, it pulls all your defensive players inside. Even outside LBs and CBs. At that point all you have to do is cut left or right. If they call the defense going left or right it only works if they guess right! This defense is not a reliable method to stopping short yard situations! This defense is not a difference maker unless who's on offense isn't paying attention!

Also, its real easy to called this defense on accident. It's the L2 button and the way I hold my controller, I've hit it by mistake on a few occasions!

I think that some people believe that the run commit was used when really it was just a good defensive call (and an insane amount of Madden luck) that killed the play in the backfield. Regardless, if the run commit is being used, please do so sparingly and in the appropriate situations as many of you have indicated above.

LOL. My sausage fingers get in the way when i'm calling audibles. Sometimes I start calling things that I don't even mean to and wind up taking a timeout. That, or I get caught completely off guard and my defense is for the taking.

Mental note: use 4-3 stack vs Avery. If he runs for over 200yds, curse Avery for baiting me into using the 4-3 stack...
