LSU vs. Florida I - Will the rematch in the SEC Championship live up to the first OT thrilla?

Gators defeat Tigers in OT, 20-17

This game proved to be another instant classic in the Florida / LSU saga. The game started slowly as both defenses asserted themselves early. LSU was winning the field position battle, having pinned Florida at their own 1 yard line, when:

Jeff Demps takes it 99 yards to the house! 7-0 Florida.

On the ensuing LSU possession Jordan Jefferson would go down on an option play. A few moments later, former starter Jarrett Lee stepped in and threw an interception. Then word came from the LSU bench that Jordan Jefferson was done for 12 weeks, i.e., the rest of the season. It was about to get worse for the Tigers:

Brantley hits Demps on the screen to put Florida up 14-0

But LSU would make a valiant comeback. Down 14-3 in the 3rd quarter, the Tiger offense would strike:

Rueben Randle took this screen 46 yard to cut the lead to 4, 14-10.

After what seemed like a slew of turnovers, LSU would take the lead on this Jarrett Lee pass:

    JUKE! TD LSU! 17-14 Tigers.

The Gators would move down the field and tack on a FG to tie the game at 17 with under 2:00 remaining. LSU was driving, but an Ahmad Black INT all but put the game away. HOWEVER, Florida miss-managed the clock and allowed it to expire before getting the FG unit on the field. So we went to Overtime in the Swamp.

Florida lost the toss and got the ball first. The Gators could only manage a FG. LSU then took over and after Florida held them on 3rd and 2, coach Maximus, very true to Les Miles form, elected to go for it on 4th and 2:

Jenoris Jenkins' pass deflection gave Florida the win.

After the game coach 2Bits said "I have all the respect in the world for coach Maximus, his staff and his team. I would not be surprised at all to see them again this year."

    great game Maximus.
