Fresno St grabs first victory of 2013
Coming off a disappointing performance at home losing to Rutgers in week 1, the Fresno State Bulldogs showed some promise for the season in a week 2 pouncing of the Colorado Buffaloes.
FSU went wire to wire for the 49-14. This game was never in doubt despite the home team leading just 14-0 at the half. Senior QB Derek Carr showed his elite level talent going 15/21 with 224 yards 3 TD's and no INT's.
Carr displayed some sweet passing skills on a pair of TD passes to WR Isiah Burse. Burse would finish the game with 3 TD's total, getting one on the ground via a Wildcat rush from 4 yards out.
While the offense was putting up a solid outing the defense shined on this day. The majority of CU's 221 yards on offense came on their two scoring drives. Outside of those two drives CU couldn't get much of anything going.
The Bulldogs look to carry this momentum into a big contest with Cincinatti in week 3.

San Jose St. Stuns Stanford at Home
Stanford began the game controlling the line of scrimmage and doing pretty much whatever they wanted on the ground. The Spartans of San Jose St. showed some resiliency and found a way to erase a 24-7 halftime deficit to come from behind and defeat the Cardinal 28-27. "This was a huge early win for us this season after the debacle at Cincy last week. Our kids showed some real fight and determination by coming back and defeating a great football team. I am hoping the inspired football we played in the second half tonight carries over into the rest of the season." Coach VanGiesen

    Bearcats Dominate Cal 45-7
Bearcats took it to the Golden Bears in what proved to be a smashing. QB Branden Kay ran for over 100 yards and 2 TDS , backup QB Pat Coyne went 1/1 with a TD of his own. Bearcats take on Fresno State next week without their starting HB. Tion Green will take his spot and get a chance to show coach nellycuz what he's got.

SMU Starts Year out with Big Win
The SMU offense was all it was hyped up to be in the Mustangs season opening win. The first TD went to star receiver Der'rikk Thompson after senior leader Garrett Gilbert audibled after seeing a blitz and threw a perfect 22 yard fade TD to the back of the end zone. The Stangs started off strong and rushed out to a 24-7 lead midway through the second quarter.
However after getting comfortable with their lead SMU's much maligned defense gave up a score with 41 seconds left in the half, then came back out after halftime and gave up another TD just 40 seconds into the half to cut the lead to 24-21. Coach Applegate got the whole team together and gave them a pep talk to calm them down - and the Stangs went out and scored on 3 straight possessions without giving up any more points to finish the game 45-21.
The SMU defense which was supposed to be the weak link on this team played a great game except for the 2 minute stretch to end the first half and begin the second. They forced two turnovers on picks against Colorado State QB Connor Smith.
The Air Raid offense was in full swing as QB Gilbert threw for 462 yards, 5 TD's with one INT. Recievers Jeremy Johnson (173 yards, 1 TD) and Der'rikk Thompson (83 yards, 3 TD's) were the main contributors in the pass game. The surprise contributor was TE Arrius Holeman who caught 4 passes for 82 yards and a TD. The Air Raid usually does not involve the tight ends as much as backs and receivers. As a change of pace RB Rishaad Wimbley ran the ball 18 times for 82 yards and a score.
Great start for the season for SMU - they have a big two game stretch coming up against Texas A&M then TCU back to back.

Wyoming wins home opener against Idaho
Wyoming avenges their overtime loss with a win at home beating the Vandals 33-7. Brett Smith had a nice game in the air and on the ground throwing for 158 yards and a TD. He also got it done on the ground with 57 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Miller showed what he can do with the ball besting his week 1 one effort. He rumbled for 108 yards, with backup Shaun Wick providing valuable snaps getting 52 yards and one TD. Robert Herron finally got going with 6 catches for 67 yards. Not amazing numbers but important numbers in keeping the ball moving and getting the offense in scoring range. The defense once again hounded the QB and made things difficult in the running game for the Vandals. The DC made a conscious effort to keep the opposing QB rattled by sending pressure from different areas on the field. The other team didn't know who was coming or when they were coming. The Cowboy defense racked up four sacks with secondary registering a couple of INTs. Coach Chandler expects his defense to keep up their intensity as they go on the road to face undefeated Rutgers.
