The futbol Gods were not with Marseille in the opening of Group G play. It all started with an own goal from Fanni in the 19th, giving Sevilla a 1-0 lead and putting a huge dagger into the hearts of the Marseille faithful. Shortly after that, Sevilla striker Gameiro had a breakaway, but was caught by Nkoulou who fought him hard to get the ball. A whistle stopped the play dead, giving Sevilla a free kick just outside the 18. However, to everyone's surprise, even the Sevilla staff, the referee showed Nkoulou a straight red card and sent him to the locker room and dashed what little hop Marseille had left.

To their credit, the French side kept Sevilla at bay and held on to a 1-0 deficit to the half. However, shortly in the 2nd, Sevilla struck twice. In the 55th, CDM MBia headed in a corner from Captain Rakitic. In the 57th, ST Carlos Bacca showed his pace and out raced the Marseille defense for a one on one with GK Mandanda, leaving him with no chance to save the would be goal. From there on out, Sevilla tried to possess the ball and burn out the clock, which they did. Securing a big 3 points in group play in the TFS Coppa with Aston Villa and West Ham yet to play.

GG Go Devils :: Extremely unlucky on both the OG and the red.

That is so unfortunate...I feel terrible....it was barely a yellow in my opinion, let alone a straight red...

You played just fine Cimmy24. Sorry I was so short on exit, as I was with Frenchie1916. The damn storm blowing through last night had the lights flickering and was driving all my animals nuts. I usually stick around for some commentary, but I felt like the ring leader of a circus last night during my games, standing for many points of the match. :) That being said...

You kicked my ass sir. The foul on that red... let's be honest... I've had fiercer tug jobs from the ladies than the one NKoulou gave Gameiro shoulder to shoulder, but what are you gonna do? The OG was my fault for being an idiot and trying to clear the wrong way, but in the end you dominated. Welcome back and good luck in moving on.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I nearly messaged you after that red card, but figured you would've thrown your controller at me...even across country. I could not believe it. I have never literally blinked and rubbed my eyes in disbelief of what I saw during a video game before.

Missed PK and a handful of one on ones would doom Bilbao in this game as Cagliari held on for the win.

Both team's refusal to defend crosses led to 4 of the 6 goals with 3 of them off corners.

Fernandinho shows off his skill as he embarasses the Cagliari backline before firing in Miniero's first goal. gutnedawg

Zikry your third goal was tough for me... It switched me to a guy not in the play basically giving you the jockey for the header. The pk was upsetting too...dumb computers oh well gg man you played well and your d was good having all those 4* skillers helps open things up a bit

Yea I couldn't figure out when you would go for the spin move and got burned a bunch of times. Overall think a draw was the fair result anyways.

Haha I noticed that late you were letting my cam run ahead of you but you realized you were leaving the cross wide open so you closed the gap

Very frustrating game, Dida was excellent. Definitely did not play like a 40 year old, semi-retired washed-up keeper.

The 1st game of group E came and went. HokieNYC and Dinamo Moskva travelled to Argentina to take on Boca Juniors. The match was dull at best. The first half went by with no shots, from either side. The best chance to open up the scoring came in the 57th minute went J. Riquelme played a great ball through F. Cangele who blasted it an inch off the goal post. Seven minutes later Dinamo Moskva would go on to take the lead from a corner kick. Douglas beat the defender and the goalie over the top. Boca would keep on trying to equalize, they finally got their goal. In the 90th minute F. Gago played a cross into L. Paredes who would beat the defender and the goalie.

    gg HokieNYC

A tie was probably a fair result. Good luck the rest of the way.

Lille registered their 1st victory of the season in a convincing 3-0 win over Coppa foes Parma. Manager RedAL had never beaten manager Geneseo in previous cup ties, but Les Dogues were out to prove that they could still compete at the highest level. It took 35 minutes for the home side to strike, as LB P. Souare muscled off his mark inside the box and cut a pass back to N. Roux, who did brilliantly to dig the ball out from under his feet and get his shot on frame. With the lead, Lille looked for a 2nd, and found it just before halftime. R. Rodelin received a through pass and broke in on net. His options to cross were defended well, so he took it on himself. The initial shot was saved, but the rebound careened right into the path of onrushing defender G. Paletta, who could do nothing about the resulting own goal.

Up 2 at halftime, Lille wasted no time getting the 3rd. S. Kalou worked his way into the box, dribbled through a maze of defenders, and struck a low shot past the keeper for the 3rd goal of the match. From there, Lille pulled back into their defensive shell and maintained the lead. Parma's best chance of the match came from 35 yards out, as Amauri's rasping shot curled inches past the post.
