Spartak Moscow captured three points in its season opener, defeating Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 in front of the opposition's home crowd. After a scoreless first half which the announcing crew dubbed as "boring" and "uneventful" the boys from Russia resolved to mount a much stronger attack in the second half, and received fruits for their labor twice in the form of two goals. Moskow's first goal came in the 49', as Jurado cut upfield on a counter attack and swung a perfect cross in to the waiting head of Pavel Yakolev, who tapped it right past the keeper for a 1-0. With Donetsk struggling to mount much of anything with the ball, Spartak kept the pressure on and forced a total of six second half chances. It seemed as if the visitors would capture a second goal in the 68th minute, as Aiden McGeady made a brilliant move to the goal with a series of dribble moves. Though the Scottish native's initial shot was parried away, McGeady had an opportunity to extend his team's lead off the rebound. Instead, the Spartak star pushed the shot wide with his weak foot, keeping the score at 1-0. That reality didn't last for long, though, as Jurado was once again the catalyst to a Spartak scoring effort. The Spaniard cut in between two defenders while inside the box and was thrown to the turf, but the referees didn't call a foul. As the Spartak sideline erupted in disgust, Jurado leapt back up to his feet, pushed the ball forward with one touch and then slid it past the keeper for Moscow's second goal. With a 2-0 lead the visitors went into ultra defensive mode and were able to keep a clean sheet for keeper Sergey Pesyakov to open the season.

Was an enjoyable match with great sportsmanship shown by both parties! Shakhtar got off to a good start with some early chances and with some great foot work from Costa was able to put one in the back of the net.. Gremio answered early in the second with a cross and volley that was originally saved, but the rebound was quickly kicked in by Vargas. However, after some solid D by Gremio Costa was able to break down the sideline and put in a brillant cross that was headed in my Taison to give them the winning goal. Shakhtar went into defensive mode to hold onto the win! Both coaches congratulated each other on a good match afterwards!!

Sevilla FC kicked off their Serie C campaign in fabulous fashion with a 3-1 win over promotion rival Atletico Mineiro in their own stadium. Newcomer Kevin Gameiro knocked in 2 goals for Sevilla to give them a 2-0 lead early on. After a defensive battle, Mineiro tallied one on the score sheet coming off a diving header by stand out striker Jo just before the half time whistle blew.

Sevilla did not back down and looked for 3 points in Brazil as opposed to settling for a possible draw against the stingy Mineiro attack. Captain Rakitic found ST Bacca just under 15 minutes into the second half to give Sevilla a 3-1 lead. Despite multiple threats from Jo, Ronaldinho, and Fernandinho in the later stages of the game, Sevilla hung on to open up Serie C play with a very important 3 points.

Cimmy24 tough game... all goals came from crosses with the center of the pitch being relatively inaccessible. Ronaldinho found some space, freeing himself with some fancy footwork, late into the game but didn't square up enough and his shot sailed wide. The early yellow, on a pretty weak foul call especially for the first foul of the game, really prevented Rocha from being aggressive which opened up the wing for crosses. Keeper Victor had a horrible game allowing 3 relatively easy headers go by him while his counterpart wasn't really tested.

I'm assuming this clean sheet went to Sergey Pesyakov? Unless you switched keepers... I'll go ahead and add him in the stat sheet unless you tell me otherwise.

    Clean Sheet - Victor
Clube Atlético Mineiro got back on track after their embarrassing loss in their home opener against Sevilla by dominating their second game start to finish. This one could have gotten out of hand if not for a few wide shots, 6 saves by Sunderland keeper Westwood and a brilliant save by the cross bar on a Jo bicycle kick via a corner. Marcos Rocha was entrusted not to pick up another yellow and came up big taking MOTM honors with 15 passes, 12 dribbles and 2 tackles won. Fernandinho pulled a muscle in the 30th minute but played through it and was later subbed off in the 67th. Good game ezio! The 4-1-4-1 made it really difficult to advance the ball.

A few things - could you please Color code your posts so I can tell who scored for which team? It's not a big deal when there are only two or three goals, but if it's a 4-3 slugfest, it gets tedious as I have to pore through Google looking for all these damn Brazilians who go by Fred, or Fred. Also, please keep track of assists. We don't necessarily need to know who assisted on which goal, but we do track numbers. If all three of these goals were unassisted, so be it.

Also, we record the Man of the Match in our stats. Just thinks to make not of for next time. Do you recall who it was? pitt4life21 - do you happen to remember any of these stats?

    Welcome aboard, man!

Remember, the first two weeks of the season, we have THREE matches to play. After that, we settle into two matches per week (plus Coppa matches).

As this year doesn't give the option to end matches after the full 90 in the event of a draw, the home team MUST get the game stats after the full 90 is played, so the visiting team must quit before the 30-second countdown expires.

Jô finally decided it was time to start the season and goes off scoring numerous bicycle kicks in the box, two of which came from Ronaldinho corner kicks. Atlético Mineiro continues to play better away than at home for some reason and the manager is feeling some pressure from fans, hopefully the next home match will have a different conclusion. The skillful Atlético Mineiro attackers proved difficult to defend and were able to get by defenders multiple times to setup dangerous attacks. Unfortunately, they were unable to finish them off and had to rely on Jô, who didn't disappoint. Good game pitt4life21
