& COPPA CONFEDERAZIONE Draw Details Draw Date: Wednesday, October 2 @ 7:30 PM ET A new season is upon us and that means time for some more Coppa! The setup is pretty much the same as usual, except now with 32 teams in TFS, we can go back to all groups having 4 teams each. Since we currently have 30 teams as of now though, Groups A & H will start out with only 3 teams each. Schedule The first group match games will open immediately following the draw. The Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals will remain open for an extended time (a week and a half each), to allow ample time for all games to be completed. The dates for the schedule will be as follows: 10/2 - 10/9: Serie Matchweek 1 will have Group Matchday 1 10/9 - 10/16: Serie Matchweek 2 will have Group Matchday 2 10/16 - 10/23: Serie Matchweek 3 will have Group Matchday 3 10/23- 10/30: Serie Matchweek 4 will be an off week (cushion for unplayed group stage games) 10/30 - 11/6: Int'l Break 11/6 - 11/17: Round of 16 will be during Serie Matchweek 5 & part of Serie Matchweek 6 11/17 - 11/27: The later part of Serie Matchweek 6 & all of Serie Matchweek 7 will be the time for Quarterfinals 11/27 - 12/4: Int'l Break 12/4 - 12/11: Back to weekly scheduling, with Semifinals during Serie Matchweek 8 12/11 - 12/18: Coppa Tradizione & Confederazione Final Groups With 32 teams, all groups will have 4 teams each again. However, if we still have only 30 teams at the time of the draw, Groups A & H will each have 3 teams (chosen because it keeps a balanced bracket format). Team 31 that joins TFS will then enter Group A, while Team 32 would enter Group H. All groups will contain at least 1 representative from each Serie level (except for possibly Groups A & H should we remain under capacity). Pots There will be 4 pots. The pots will be ranked by Coppa title holder and Serie level first, and previous season's results second. Any newcomers will be ranked last. Each of the 4 pots will contain 8 teams. Here are the pots: Pot 1: WingedHelmet (West Ham), Broncos218 (B. M'gladbach), shiftee (CSKA Moscow), Zikry (Cagliari), LasVegasFC (Atalanta), juanchoCT14 (Hamburger SV), dooz (Swansea City), RedAL925 (Lille OSC) Pot 2: IJGator (Malaga), bbrech0610 (Udinese), HokieNYC (Dinamo Moscow), MiaFLSurf (Aston Villa), BESHIKTAS (QPR), Selvy9 (Sporting CP), vipermansa (Athletic Bilbao), Kella (Norwich City) Pot 3: redwings8831 (PSV Eindhoven), UcanHateMeNow (Seattle Sounders), Go Devils (Marseille), Frenchie1916 (VfB Stuttgart), guayo10 (Boca Juniors), YNWA96 (Hannover 96), Geneseo98 (Parma), pitt4life21 (Gremio) Pot 4: gutnedawg (Atl. Mineiro), DentalMonsterUM (Chicago Fire), kurdishkobe (Internacional), Cimmy24 (Sevilla FC), krtgolfing (Shakhtar Donetsk), Spayer419 (Spartak Moscow) Draw Sequence With the World Cup draw, they draw a team and a slot (1-4) within the group. Since the schedule is already set for each slot within each group, and I don't want to prolong the draw with also drawing group slots when I draw each team, a quick random draw of the slot order will be done for each group beforehand. This is done so that certain pots aren't guaranteed 2 home games and further randomizes the playing order within the group. So for example, I'll randomize Group A and it may turn out that slot 1 goes to the 3rd team drawn, slot 2 to the 1st team drawn, etc. Just check out the previous Coppa's draw is this sounds confusing. Primarily, it's just to randomize the matches. After that, the teams will be drawn in a live format, with me posting the results here in this thread. First, the pot 1 teams will be drawn group-by-group. Then the same for pot 2. At this point, 4 groups will have 2 Serie A teams, and 4 will have an A and B team. To ensure each group contains a member from each Serie, two of the A/B groups will then be drawn with one of the two Serie C representatives in Pot 3 (think of these two teams kinda as a Pot 3A). Then, the draw will continue on as normal, with the remaining Pot 3 teams drawn group-by-group, and then the Pot 4 teams drawn last. For any questions, just post over in the Cups Discussion thread.
