& COPPA CONFEDERAZIONE Draw Details Draw Date: Thursday, January 2 @ 11 PM ET One more season, one more Coppa! Will probably be working late Thursday so won't be able to do the draw until pretty late. But some changes to the Coppa this season- since we now have 24 teams, we will follow a format similar to when the World Cup had 24 teams. What that means is we will have 6 groups of 4 teams. Like normal, the top 2 in each group will advance to the Coppa Tradizione knockout stage. Additionally, the 4 best 3rd-place teams will also advance to the Tradizione knockout to give us a total of 16. The 2 lowest 3rd-place teams and all of the 4th-place teams will drop down into the Coppa Confederazione knockout stage, which will therefore consist of 8 teams. Schedule The first group match games will open immediately following the draw. The Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals will remain open for an extended time (a week and a half each), to allow ample time for all games to be completed. The dates for the schedule will be as follows: 1/2 - 1/8: Serie Matchweek 1 will have Group Matchday 1 1/8 - 1/15: Serie Matchweek 2 will have Group Matchday 2 1/15 - 1/22: Serie Matchweek 3 will have Group Matchday 3 1/22 - 1/29 : Int'l Break (also partially a cushion for unplayed group stage games) 1/29 - 2/9: Round of 16 will be during Serie Matchweek 4 & part of Serie Matchweek 5 2/9 - 2/19: The later part of Serie Matchweek 5 & all of Serie Matchweek 6 will be the time for Quarterfinals 2/19 - 2/26: Int'l Break 2/26 - 3/5: Back to weekly scheduling, with Semifinals during Serie Matchweek 8 3/5 - 3/12: Coppa Tradizione & Confederazione Final Pots There will be 4 pots. The pots will be ranked by Coppa title holder and Serie level first, and previous season's results second. Any newcomers will be ranked last. Each of the 4 pots will contain 6 teams. Here are the pots: Pot 1: Zikry (Cagliari), shiftee (CSKA Moscow), MiaFLSurf (Aston Villa), juanchoCT14 (Udinese), Broncos218 (Hamburger SV), dooz (Swansea City) Pot 2: bbrech0610 (Sevilla), RedAL925 (PSV Eindhoven), vipermansa (Shakhtar Donetsk), BESHIKTAS (Lyon), Selvy9 (Seattle Sounders), redwings8831 (Fulham) Pot 3: YNWA96 (Norwich City), UcanHateMeNow (SC Braga), Frenchie1916 (VfB Stuttgart), Go Devils (Marseille), Geneseo98 (Sunderland), Cimmy24 (B. M'gladbach) Pot 4: krtgolfing (Athletic Bilbao), gutnedawg (Atl. Mineiro), pitt4life21 (Gremio), danwin (Catania), BigSmooth33 (Hannover 96), Friz (Southampton) Draw Sequence With the World Cup draw, they draw a team and a slot (1-4) within the group. Since the schedule is already set for each slot within each group, and I don't want to prolong the draw with also drawing group slots when I draw each team, a quick random draw of the slot order will be done for each group beforehand. This is done so that certain pots aren't guaranteed 2 home games and further randomizes the playing order within the group. So for example, I'll randomize Group A and it may turn out that slot 1 goes to the 3rd team drawn, slot 2 to the 1st team drawn, etc. Just check out the previous Coppa's draw is this sounds confusing. Primarily, it's just to randomize the matches. After that, the teams will be drawn in a live format, with me posting the results here in this thread. First, the pot 1 teams will be drawn group-by-group. Then the same for pot 2, then 3, then 4. In the end, each group will consist of 2 Serie A teams and 2 Serie B teams. For any questions, just post over in the Cups Discussion thread.
