& COPPA CONFEDERAZIONE Draw Details Draw Date: Wednesday, April 2 @ 9 PM ET Another season, another Coppa! This time around though, we're starting the season with 19 managers and 2 of them - Friz and redwings8831 - will not participate in this season's Coppa as they'll be unavailable to complete the knockout stage. That leaves us with 17 for the cup. And with 17, that means we will have 4 groups- 3 groups of 4, and 1 group of 5 (if someone else drops out, expect a team in the group of 5 to be moved to another group). And with 4 groups, only 8 teams will advance to the Coppa Tradizione knockout stage (the top 2 in each group)! The Coppa Confederazione will remain intact with the 9 teams who fail to qualify for the Coppa Tradizione knockout stage falling into the Confed's bracket. Schedule The first group match games will open immediately following the draw. The Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals will remain open for an extended time (a week and a half each), to allow ample time for all games to be completed. The dates for the schedule will be as follows: 4/3 - 4/9: Serie Matchweek 1 will have Group Matchday 1 4/9 - 4/16: Serie Matchweek 2 will have Group Matchday 2 4/16 - 4/23: Serie Matchweek 3 will have Group Matchday 3 4/23 - 4/30 : Serie Matchweek 4 will be a buffer week for unplayed group stage games 4/30 - 5/11: Quarterfinals will be during Serie Matchweek 5 & part of Serie Matchweek 6 5/11 - 5/21: The later part of Serie Matchweek 6 & all of Serie Matchweek 7 will be the time for the Semifinals 5/21 - 5/28: Back to weekly scheduling, with the Coppa Traidione & Confederazione Final during Serie Matchweek 8 Pots There will be 4 pots. The pots will be ranked by Coppa title holder and Serie level first, and previous season's results second. Any newcomers will be ranked last. Each of the 4 pots will contain 4 teams (except Pot 4, which will have 5 teams). Here are the pots: Pot 1: shiftee (CSKA Moscow), juanchoCT14 (Sao Paulo), vipermansa (Shakhtar Donetsk), Zikry (Marseille) Pot 2: BESHIKTAS (Lyon), Broncos218 (Parma), RedAL925 (PSV Eindhoven), Selvy9 (Seattle Sounders) Pot 3: bbrech0610 (Sevilla), gutnedawg (Atl. Mineiro), Go Devils (Swansea City), krtgolfing (Udinese) Pot 4: UcanHateMeNow (Olympiakos), Frenchie1916 (VfB Stuttgart), pitt4life21 (Aston Villa), Julius Young (Athletic Bilbao), Kevin Gomez (Cruz Azul) Draw Sequence With the World Cup draw, they draw a team and a slot (1-4) within the group. Since the schedule is already set for each slot within each group, and I don't want to prolong the draw with also drawing group slots when I draw each team, a quick random draw of the slot order will be done for each group beforehand. This is done so that certain pots aren't guaranteed 2 home games and further randomizes the playing order within the group. So for example, I'll randomize Group A and it may turn out that slot 1 goes to the 3rd team drawn, slot 2 to the 1st team drawn, etc. Just check out the previous Coppa's draw is this sounds confusing. Primarily, it's just to randomize the matches. After that, the teams will be drawn in a live format, with me posting the results here in this thread. First, the pot 1 teams will be drawn group-by-group. Then the same for pot 2, then 3, then 4 (with the fifth spot in the 5-team Group A drawn last). In the end, each group will consist of 2 Serie A teams and 2 Serie B teams (except Group A, which will have 2 A and 3 B teams). For any questions, just post over in the Cups Discussion thread.
