Sporting CP opened their TFS Coppa campaign with 3 points over new boys Coventry City. The home side were slow to get into their groove, but started to boss proceedings late in the first half, capping it off with a Diego Capel goal from a quick counter. In the 2nd half it was all Sporting, as the Lisbon side dominated their weaker English opposition in possession. Fredy Montero grabbed his first goal of the season before Capel rounded off the scoring with a nice move inside the box. Uri Rosell, former Sporting KC star, was influential in midfield, breaking up the play time and again for the Lions.

GG BigBeansMcGee - If you don't set your lineup in time we can quit and start again, no problem. You should also be able to set your lineup prematch since we use Custom rosters.

Dinamo Moscow opened cup play today against Serie C newcomers West Brom, and after what looked to be a promising start with an early goal from Kokorin, turned upside down quickly. West Brom equalized through Ideye as the defense was inexplicably caught on their heals near midfield leading to a long breakaway run and finish for Ideye. And despite controlling possession and creating opportunities, Dinamo soon found themselves down after a wonder goal from West Brom right back C. Gamboa. An early frontrunner for goal of the week, Dinamo was left scrambling trying to get back into the game. Finally, with only minutes to go, Kevin Kuranyi will get credit for walking it in, but a low cross into the box and an unfortunate bounce off the foot of the defender in West Brom's eyes allowed the home team to grab a point.

We go into every game looking for three points, so if we don't get it we're always going to be disappointed. But a point could be the difference in a cup group, so we'll take it and move on.

Good game Calhockey10 - I'll grab that goal highlight and head right over to the goals of the week thread for you.

The weather in this game was a symbol of the early season for Lille, a downpour of unfortunate breaks, as Club America came into France and stole 3 points with a Peralta penalty in the 41st minute. The America keeper earned man of the match honors, tallying 5 saves while earning the clean sheet.

Layun was a menace all match long. He torchered the backline of Lille. In the 29th minute he was able to wiggle past Kjaer who then fouled him. The Lille players protested it was a dive and out of the area but the ref awarded the penalty annyway. Peralta converted for the games lone goal.

Parma Fc opened their TFS Coppa Campaign with 3 points over Ajax. Parma was hot from the start with a goal in the 8’. Ajax would answer back in the 20’ only to have Biabiany and Palladino hook up on a cross. As the game progressed to the second half Cassano struck goal again, off a goalie deflection which would leave Ajax in an unsurmountable hole. The defense held strong in Parma as they held tight when attacked heavy. One of the big differences in the game was the speed Parma possess outside with Biabiany, as he was able to get behind the defense. Good Game Ajax.

Lasogga Hat Trick Gives Hamburg Head Start In Group B
After opening their season with a draw in Serie A, Hamburg looked to get back on track as they hosted Serie C side Hull City in the two club's opening Coppa match. Hull managed to stall the Hamburg offense early on, but it didn't take too long for striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga to put his stamp on the game. Lasogga opened his account with a goal in the 35th minute, and then followed that with two more in the 49th and 79th minutes to complete the hat-trick. Substitute Gojko Kacar scored off of a deep shot in the 90th minute, but then Gaston Ramirez spoiled Rene Adler's clean sheet with a goal for Hull. "After the draw we had in league play, we certainly came out firing on all cylinders," said Coach Bronc following the match. "There's no room for error in the Coppa, so it's imperative that we grabbed the 3 points today and now sit atop the group table."

Yes, for some reason my squad was reset to the default line up, hence the two immediate subs at the start of the game. I subbed my goal keeper at the end because he is awful.

For the first time since joining the TF serie West Brom Manager calhockey10 found himself behind in a match. QPR struck first in the first half stoppage time with a quick move past the CB E. Vargas put QPR on top going into halftime. The second half saw West Brom shift its formation from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 attacking and they turned up the attacking pressure. They put some pressure on throughout the first half of the second half but couldn't find and answer to putting one in the net. A close chance by QPR led to a quick counter that got slowed just past half field then S. Varela picked up the ball quick move past the defender and he found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 in the 80th minute. This was the exact opposite from the first two games where they let up goals in the 80th+ minute. Just three minutes later Brunt found CAM G. Dorrans for his first goal of the season and they took the lead 2-1 in the 83rd minute to complete the comeback they would hold onto the lead and finish off the game with a win.

West Brom has started out with 1 win and 1 tie in both TF Serie C and the Coppa tournament so far.

Sporting CP took down another newcomer to TFSerie in the Coppa with a 1-0 win over Celtic in Scotland. The Lisbon club now has 6 points out of 2 games, making advancement to the knockout round a virtual certainty. The visitors took advantage of a slow start by Celtic when Joao Mario found space down the right. Fredy Montero received the pass in the box, turned his defender, and put a left-footed effort to the far post for the opening goal. Sporting were in control in the first half, but Celtic came on strong in the second. They seemed to have found an equalizer in the 87', but the linesman waved for offsides.

CSKA get 3-0 win in TFS Coppa opener
It was another rainy day in Moscow as the Army Men hosted Fulham for their TFS Coppa opening game. CSKA got off to a quick start when Eremenko found space in the middle and blasted a shot that was met with a diving save by the Fulham keeper. Eremenko would find the back of an empty net 2 minutes later as Doumbia was sent in alone and laid off a pass to Eremenko as the GK was rushing out. Tosic doubled CSKA's lead as he forced a turnover off of the Fulham LB and sprinted into the empty space behind him - placing a shot by a helpless GK. Doumbia would cap off the scoring on a tap-in rebound that came from an rolling shot by Eremenko that the keeper couldn't control, most likely due to the rain.

The League Cup couldn't have gotten off to much more of a flying start. In an absolute track meet, Sunderland FC took down Villareal at the Stadium of Light. The game got of to a start that would be indicative of the rest of the match. Great offensive play by one side and a "must-have" save by the keeper. Both keepers were on their 'A' game today, posting 16 combined saves. All of the offensive firepower finally paid off for the away side in the 39th minute when I. Uche played a simple through ball that L. Vietto finished with ease just inside the box. However, the lead did not last long as the Black Cats got back on top with a lovely cross from Giaccherini after he was able to make it to the by-line just a couple of yards from the keeper. The cross was finished off by a thumping header from J. Rodwell. Following the game drawing level, both offenses proceeded to exchange haymakers, without either side being able to finally break through. Finally, in the 86th minute, S. Fletcher nicked the ball off of Villareal, just as they were crossing the midfield line, and drove down the field before laying off a simple ball for J. Rodwell who finished the move with a right-footed strike to beat Asenjo.

All in all, it was a game played with break-neck pace and plenty of outlandish saves and wasted opportunities for both squads. It was hardly a crippling loss for Villareal who have more than enough offensive firepower to play with anyone and are likely to advance in the league cup. However, Villareal's heartbreak is surely the joy of every Sunderland fan who will be celebrating an excellent result for the squad picked to finish last in the group.

Hoffenheim explode for four in Pokal victory
After a lukewarm beginning to the Serie A campaign, rschwep and 1899 Hoffenheim were determined to get off to a stronger beginning in the Pokal. After a thunderous first half against fellow German stalwart Frenchie1916, it's safe to say the men from Sinsheim have the blueprint performance they want to emulate going forward.

"We've scored first in our past two matches, but only to take zero points," said rschwep. "Tonight, we wanted to repeat that feat but go on to get the second and eventually the win. It was important for us to begin this group phase on the right note. We did that tonight."

Kevin Volland starred for Hoffenheim, notching a hat trick and recording a rarified-air match rating of 9.8.

"Volland was sensational," said his manager. "He had two carbon-copy curler goals, but he's showing that that's a weapon he has in his arsenal. We need chance creation and if we can get it from the outside with Kevin, that will only help Roberto [Firmino] and Anthony [Modeste] up the middle."

Most importantly for Hoffenheim in the end, according to rschwep, was the clean sheet.

"We hadn't kept the other side off the scoresheet all season. Our defense has to get better, particularly if we are to make a deep run in this tournament or make noise in the League. At halftime, I challenged the team to keep the clean sheet and I'm proud that we were able to hold Gladbach off in the second half."
