& COPPA CONFEDERAZIONE Draw Details Draw Date: Tuesday, October 7 @ 9 PM ET It wouldn't be a new season without a new Coppa draw! We'll be returning to the normal 34-team format we had before, meaning we'll have 6 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 5 (Groups A & H). For those unfamiliar with the cup structure, be sure to brush up on the Rules here. 16 teams will advance to the Coppa Tradizione knockout stage (the top 2 from each group), with everyone else dropping down into the Coppa Confederazione knockout stage. Schedule The first group match games will open the same day as the start of the TFS season. The Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals will remain open for an extended time (a week and a half each), to allow ample time for all games to be completed. The dates for the schedule will be as follows: 10/8 - 10/15: Serie Matchweek 1 will have Group Matchday 1 10/15 - 10/22: Serie Matchweek 2 will have Group Matchday 2 10/22 - 10/29: Serie Matchweek 3 will have Group Matchday 3 10/29 - 11/5: Serie Matchweek 4 will be a buffer week for unplayed group stage games 11/5 - 11/16: Round of 16 will be during Serie Matchweek 5 & part of Serie Matchweek 6 11/16 - 11/26: The later part of Serie Matchweek 6 & all of Serie Matchweek 7 will be the time for the Quarterfinals 11/26 - 12/3: Thanksgiving break (no scheduled matches) 12/3 - 12/10: Back to weekly scheduling, with the Semifinals during Serie Matchweek 8 12/10 - 12/17: Coppa Tradizione & Confederazione Final during Serie Matchweek 9 Groups With 34 teams, Groups A & H will each have 5 teams (chosen because it keeps a balanced bracket format), while the other 6 groups will each have 4 teams. Similar to real-life tournaments with an unequal number of teams per group, the 5th team in each larger group will be a team drawn from the lowest pot, in this case, Pot 4. All groups will still contain at least 1 representative from each Serie level. Pots There will be 3 pots. Normally, there are 4 pots that would be ranked by Coppa title holder and Serie level first, and previous season's results second, with any newcomers ranked last. However, with the large expansion compared to Season 13 and the return of many vets who did not participate in the last season, the pots will simply be divided up by Serie level this time around. Therefore, Pots 1 and 2 will contain 12 teams each, while Pot 3 will contain 10 teams.. Here are the pots: Pot 1: rschwep (1899 Hoffenheim), BESHIKTAS (Besiktas), shiftee (CSKA Moscow), Friz (Dinamo Moscow), IJGator (Fulham), Broncos218 (Hamburger SV), CxMacx10 (Lille OSC), vipermansa (Lokomotiv Moscow), HokieNYC (Lyon), Zikry (Marseille), RedAL925 (Sporting CP), redwings8831 (Villarreal) Pot 2: hedache (Ajax Amsterdam), UcanHateMeNow (AS Monaco), pitt4life21 (Aston Villa), Frenchie1916 (B. M'gladbach), Kevin Gomez (Club America), WingedHelmet (Hull City), guayo10 (Newcastle), krtgolfing (Shakhtar Donetsk), MiaFLSurf (Southampton), Blaza (Spartak Moscow), MoonBBad (Stoke City), hokie79 (West Ham) Pot 3: Lions67 (Celtic), BigBeansMcGee (Coventry City), KnightNoles (Olympiakos), PhiGuy179 (Parma), CTfromDC (PSV Eindhoven), John O'Connor (QPR), Lou (Saint-Etienne), Calhockey10 (Sunderland), abolishthefed (Swansea City), Caleb Clark (West Brom) Draw Sequence With the World Cup draw, they draw a team and a slot (1-4) within the group. Since the schedule is already set for each slot within each group, and I don't want to prolong the draw with also drawing group slots when I draw each team, a quick random draw of the slot order will be done for each group beforehand. This is done so that certain pots aren't guaranteed 2 home games and further randomizes the playing order within the group. So for example, I'll randomize Group A and it may turn out that slot 1 goes to the 3rd team drawn, slot 2 to the 1st team drawn, etc. Just check out the previous Coppa's draw if this sounds confusing. Primarily, it's just to randomize the matches. After that, the teams will be drawn in a live format, with me posting the results here in this thread at the previously announced draw date & time. First, the Pot 1 teams will be drawn group-by-group from Group A-H. Then, 4 groups will be chosen at random, with the final 4 teams remaining from Pot 1 drawn into those groups. The 4 groups that were not drawn a second Pot 1 team will then be drawn a team from Pot 2. After that, the remaining teams in Pot 2 will be drawn group-by-group again, from A-H. Pot 3 teams will be drawn last (with the 9th & 10th drawn teams filling the 5th slots in Groups A & H). For any questions, just post over in the Cups Discussion thread.
