Sporting CP opened Coppa Group Stage play (and 2015) with a 3-2 win over West Brom. The visitors were in the ascendency early, having a flurry of corner kicks parried away by Rui Patricio, but the breakthrough would come through Sessegnon just 20 minutes into the match. Sporting responded via Montero before the referee got a bit card-happy, handing out 3 in the last 5 minutes of the first half, all to Sporting. A. Silva was able to give the home side the lead into the break, but B. Ideye came right back in the second half to level it up. It was the Lions' day, however, as Montero again made a run into the box. His shot was saved but the rebound came to Slimani, who put in the eventual game-winner from close range.

Stoke City escaped with three points thanks mostly to the heroics of their keeper Begovic, the goal post, and some nifty goals from Assaidi and Diouf. Stoke was able to control the possession but their defense could not keep the potent Russian attack at bay. Dzsudzsak had a brilliant game with 3 shots, all on target, and one finding the back of the net late, but it wasn't enough to beat the Potters. Stoke gets a critical win and 3 points in the group. Good game vipermansa

This game started out rough for Swansea as Spartak ST Dzyuba hit a nice fadeaway shot into the top shelf of the net for a quick 1-0 lead. Swansea answered quickly, as they pushed the ball down the left side of the pitch with Montero, who hit Bony on a nice square ball in the box to even the score. Bony found the net again in the 42', with a beautiful ground cross from Dyer on the right side. Swansea locked down the defense in the second half to secure the win.

    GG John O'Connor

    Here's the Dzyuba goal:

Dyer ground cross to Bony for Swansea's second goal.

Marseille escape their first Coppa game of the season with a hard fought 1-0 victory courtesy of a last gasp Alessandrini header. Marseille were second best the entire second half as Celtic ran circles around them, with Mandanda putting in a man of the match performance to keep out the Scottish team. "We struggled mightily against the 3 man backline today, we couldn't figure out how to get our attack going". As the clock hit 90 minutes Batshuayi would get the ball on the left, and put in a hopeful cross to his much shorter team-mate Alessandrini, and as the Celtic defender jumped too early for the ball, mistiming it horribly, a fortunate Romain was able to head it into the empty net. 1-0 Marseille as they collect 3 valuable points to open up the cup campaign.

    CS - S. Ruffier (SE)

    MotM: S. Ruffier (7.7)

The entire 1st half of this Coppa opener was played like two boxers feeling out their opponent. Both teams just could not capitalize. However, in the 2nd half, Tabanou took the ball from a goal kick and passed it to Gradel, who took it from there. Max made a few moves that shook the backers trying to mark him and then placed a ball perfectly inside the near post for the team's 1st Coppa goal of the season!
Later in the match, Erding found himself open on the side, but banged the ball off the post. A most fortunate bounce had the ball find Erding's foot for the rebound shot that put Udinese away. It was a big 3 points collected, as the rest of this group is licking their chops to play both of these teams. If SE can pull at least 2 more points, they could find themselves through to the knockout stage!

    Hard Fought Win For City:
After coming off a tough loss to St. Etienne in league play City were looking to bounce back against a tough foe in hokie79 and his Malaga side as they played host to the Sky Blues in Coppa play. City went with a new 4-4-2 formation and kept to the stragety of counter attacking. Malaga controlled most of the first half of play as City played to just stay level at the half.

The second half saw City get several chances but were routine saves for Ochoa as well as Malaga putting shots on Allsop who was able to answer the call. City were given a freekick about 25 yards out which O'Brien put over the wall forcing Ochoa to parry the shot for a corner. On the insuing corner Reda Johnson was able to rise over his defender and get a head on the end of O'Briens corner for a 1-0 City lead. City were able to hold onto the lead and get a big Copp win against a far better side in Malaga.

The only time a player would need to sit out an upcoming match is if he gets a red card or accumulates 2 yellows. Also, the commish of the league/cup will more than likely notify you as well.

What a cup opener for the new manager Kasper . On a counter attack, speedy Valencia puts the Hammers up.

After 70' pressure increases on the East London side. Just when they think they might be able to get away with it, Silva ties the game for Almeria.

Quiet forward Hemed makes a surprise display and appears in the box on the very last play of the game. An unlucky deflection on his shot finds the net past Adrian to take UDA to a win and 3 points to open the 1st round.

On a low note, Verza took a terrible PK after Bifouma was taken down violently in the box.

started the Coppa campaign with a 2-0 win over long time friend Frenchie1916. Besiktas manager said: " Last year was a big disappointment in Coppa Tradizione, but consolation was to win the Coppa Confederazione. This season we will go as far as we can go in Coppa and make our fans proud."

Good game Frenchie. Good luck the rest of the season my friend.
