Genoa speedster Niang got his team an early lead in the 15', but Andy Carroll and company were not about to have their inaugural Serie B game spoiled by their hosts. Stewart Downing showed some nice footwork in the midfield and eventually dumped a pass to Carroll which would get blasted across the keeper into the upper left corner and tie the match up.

Matt Jarvis scored a fantastic individual effort goal in which he danced around the RB on the edge, dribbled along the touchline and then came across the front of the goal to score across the keepers reach and give his side what would ultimately be the 2-1 final score.

Outside of the one goal given up to a straight line sprinting Niang, the defense played well in the first match of the season.

You forgot to mention the equalizer at 90+3 that was waived off for offsides. ;)

West Ham played a solid game against a ball control opponent in this one. Gala held a sturdy defense through most of the first half, until Carroll found his way in front of goal- his shot would bounce off the post, but Jarvis would eventually find the ball and blast it into the net. Downing found Valencia at the 55' and he ripped a shot across the keeper to make it 2-0.

Good game IJGator - I like your possession style game.

Real Sociedad opened up their Serie B campaign with an impressive win over hokie79's Newcastle side. Carlos Vela was the star of the day opening up the scoring after a Newcastle turnover and a dazzling run through the defense in the 11th minute. Real Sociedad continued the pressure in the first half and carried a 3-0 lead into half time after Agirretxe capitalized on another Newcastle turnover and Prieto netted a header moments before the halftime whistle. Even after Agirretxe's 2nd goal, Newcastle refused to quit. The home side continued to make well-timed runs and it eventually paid off after Cisse was brought down in the box and won a penalty in the 80th min. Sissoko put his team on the scorer's sheet to break up the clean sheet for Real Sociedad. Coach Seals was impressed with the victory and expressed his desire to carry this momentum moving forward. Great game hokie79!

This started out as a tactical game between even teams. Sigurdsson started the scoring for Swansea, capitalizing on a block from the goalkeeper off a Gomis shot. Hannover answered quickly off a nice aerial ball into the box, capped off by a well placed shot by Hannover CDM Andreasen. Both teams finished the game looking for the game winner, but a costly turnover near midfield opened up Routledge down the right side of the pitch. A well placed cross hit Gomis' head for the winner.

What was expected to be Genoa's 2nd loss of Serie B's season 16 turned into a rising victory for the home Red-Blues. Both teams had their chances, but neither could seem to capitalize. Then in the 49th minute, a CB tripped up Niang just outside the box. Enter Costa, the FK specialist Genoa, and he bent it like Beckham over the wall and into the corner of the net past the diving keeper. It ended up being the only goal of the match, as the equalizer from Newcastle was waived off with the striker being offside.

    The rivalry is renewed!

Coventry could not seem to make it out of B this past season, so the heated rivalry continues. No one was disappointed after this game, as Coventry and Genoa stood toe to toe and went goal for goal. There were 6 total goals in this game, but City always seemed to get the lead and Genoa used all their energy to stay level. The biggest miss was the corner post hit by Costa on a free kick that would have given Genoa its first lead and could have possibly changed the entire game. Instead, the Red-Blues were happy to eek out the draw against an elite level Serie B team, putting their record to 1-1-1 on the season with only redwings8831 left to play in week 1!

Once again, UcanHateMeNow and Frenchie1916 clash on the pitch, and once again, both came away wanting more. Once again, it was a meeting of differing styles, as Berlin tried to chip the Gladbach defenders, only to get caught offside again and again, and Gladbach attempted to pass through the Berlin midfield, only to get bogged down in a sea of blue. The first half was a torpid affair, with neither side having much flare. The second, though, turned into the Yann Sommer show, as the home keeper parried shot after shot, keeping Monchengladbach in the match my his fingertips alone.

"If Monchengladbach continues on this trajectory, relegation is guaranteed," Frenchie said. "We HAVE to solve our scoring problem. we have the tools, but we're lost in our own heads. we're trying to pass our way into the net, and we just need to get the damned ball on the damned target and follow it up."

I've got the stats from this game and I'll post them. I still don't know why it said connection with opponent was lost because I was looking at replays of the highlights after the game was final.
