Malaga off to winning start with 1-0 win at home against Sunderland
It was the first match across the league - a tea time kick-off to start the season in Spain and Manager Hokie79 is delighted to start with all 3points. It is no secret his last stint in southern Spain was deemed a failure, and the big surprise was the club bringing him back. It was a nervy affair between Malaga and Sunderland, as both managers played it safe and it took awhile for the action to start with Sunderland testing Kameni from afar. Late in the first half, Amrabat had best chance with only the keeper to beat but failed to find the net. But the striker will redeem himself with the winner when he found himself all alone in front of the goal - and Duda whipping in a perfect cross for the lone goal.

"The 3 points this early is really good to have, especially at home. But we're a long way away from being a challenger. Let's see how we perform in the next couple matches."

    MotM: F. Tissone
    Assist: Duda
    Clean Sheet: Kameni

Costel Pantilimon stands tall and survives to get his first clean sheet of the season. Sunderland grabbed the early lead on a shot by Jermaine Lens from outside the box that found the bottom left corner. Lokomotiv who were playing aggresive forced the black cats to play more defensive any time they picked up the ball there was 6+ guys on their side of the field. Sunderland switched up formations at halftime to move to a more consertative 5-4-1 and played every most balls out confidently. Jermaine Defore almost doubled their lead when he rocked a shot off the post but it went out. Pantilimon made 6 diving saves to preserve the win and Sunderland goes 1 win and 1 loss on opening day. Lokomotiv deserved the win but couldn't bury one of the 15 chances they had which mainly came off of fake shots that they had to be practicing all preseason and they were deadly that game.

Amrabat nets another winner as Malaga grabs all the points in 1-0 win in France

Malaga off to a fast start as they snatched an early goal and held on with a 1-0 win against Stade Rennais. Amrabat nets his second goal in as many matches and with Malaga's known stout defense, it would be enough to gain a second win for Hokie79. It wasnt a great performance especially in the second half when the French side pinned Malaga back and had chances to equalize. In the end, the defense did enough and Ochoa had 3 great saves to get his first clean sheet of the season.

"That was ugly, and honestly a draw would have been fair. But you give this experienced team an early goal and they can play it ugly to win the points - still believe the story will be getting a consistent attack. Unless we can win all our games 1-0"

    FUN FACT:
In his last season with Malaga, Hokie79 recorded a 2-12-7 record. With this win, he already matched his wins total from Season 15.

Lokomotiv comes away with a much-needed 3 points after the loss to Sunderland. Alan Kasaev set the tone early after receiving a pass from Manuel Fernandes when he weaved throw the sliding defenders, finally finishing far post with his weak foot to give the Russians a 1-0 lead. Olympiakos poured on the shots; however, none of them put Guilherme to work. Lokomotiv dominated possession and passing and shortly after half, Maicon found himself on the endline all alone, dribbled towards goal and fired a shot near post. Olympiako's goalkeeper, Roberto, made the initial save, but the ball bounced through his legs near Oumar Niasse who fired a shot about as hard as he could into the net 2 feet away from him.

Olympiakos amped up the pressure after the goal, maybe in frustration, leading to many more interceptions, but also many more wild passes. Ultimately, despite Olympiakos finishing with an 8-shot tally, Guilherme was never truly tested who came away with a clean sheet, his first of, hopefully, many to come this season.

A tactical match between Aston Villa and Club America ends in a 1-1 draw. A first half flurry of goals saw Villa go up 1-0 as Jordan Ayew slammed home a ball bouncing around the America box. Oribe Peralta equalized a minute later with a side net beauty to wrap up a nice run.

From there, a few chances but mostly missed opportunities. Good game UcanHateMeNow.

Captain Ruben Sambueza celebrates his late goal

Club America secured their first win of the season as the home team welcomed Brazilian power Sao Paulo. The home team got on top early as Dario Benedetto was able to get on a corner kick in the 9th minute. Four minutes later, Mikey Arroyo was taken down in the box and Oribe "El Sepio" Peralta netted the penalty kick to push the lead to two. The teams then traded tactical and sometimes ragged possession for most of the rest of the game until Ruben Sambueza was able to hit a beauty from outside the box for the 3rd goal. GG RedAL925

After a dismal performance in their opening match, Sao Paulo performed much better but failed to pick up 3 points against Olympiakos. The home team was determined to score early, controlling every facet of the match in the first half. Luis Fabiano looked to have scored the opener, but the goal was correctly flagged for offsides. In the 2nd half, the Greek side looked likely to score on a couple occasions, but their finishing left a lot to be desired, and the match ended as it began.

10-man Sao Paulo eek out victory against Torino. It was a revenge match of sorts, as the club that snubbed manager RedAL for his signature became the first victims of Sao Paulo's promotion campaign. It was certainly an uphill climb, as the Brazilians were reduced to 10 men after a horror challenge by Rodrigo Caio drew a straight red from the referee. The sending off seemed to have an opposite effect on the home side, however, as Sao Paulo surged to create multiple chances on goal. It wasn't until the 79th minute when Alexandre Pato, moved to striker after the ejection, found space and blasted a shot off the crossbar. The deflection took the ball over the line just, and bounced off the diving keeper into the net. Sao Paulo defended resolutely, and secured their first 3 points of the season.

Genoa Come Out Hungry In Primetime Showdown
In the second match of the Stream of the Week doubleheader, Genoa was looking to make a strong League B debut, while Club America was hoping to continue their form that saw them defeat Sao Paulo 3-0. But right from the start, is was simply all Genoa. 3 minutes in, Diego Capel netted a header from a corner kick to put Genoa up 1-0. Then within the next 20 minutes, goals from Diego Perotti and Alberto Costa made it 3-0 Genoa. That scoreline held until the half, but Perotti quickly made it 4-0 when he made a free kick early in the second half. Genoa then held on for the clean sheet to make a it a 4-0 final. "Top-notch stuff from our guys tonight, this is the intensity I want to see from this team all season," said Coach Bronc following the win. "As I said before the season started, it's 'Title or bust' for us, and I think we put the league on notice tonight." It surely was a strong League B debut for the veteran manager, but there's still plenty of games left to play. Next up for Genoa are away matches against Atletico Mineiro and Torino FC.

The Russian side comes away with a 2-1 victory after some odd happenings lead to 2 of the 3 goals scored in the match. In a scoreless first half, Lokomotiv found plenty of chances but saw each one of them saved and sent away. Some halftime changes took star CAM Mbark Boussoufa off the pitch and subbed on Alexandre Samedov. In the 66', Samedov tip-toed the endline and shot right at the keeper who sent it back to Dmitri Tarasov alone in front, but his shot right at the keeper was saved as well. However, Stade Rennais wasn't so lucky this time, as the rebound fell in front of Niasse, who sent the shot into the top left out of the keeper's reach.

In the 77', Alan Kasaev took a pass in the middle from Vitaliy Denisov and dribbled through the middle of the Stade Rennais defense, somehow keeping his balance and curving a shot into the top right for a 2-0 lead to the Russians. Just 3 minutes later, Gelson Fernandes fired a shot from outside the box which was blocked, however, the ball fell to Fernandes' feet once again as he hit it past the keeper to make it a 1-goal game. The Russian defense held strong the rest of the way to secure 6 points from match week 1.

Genoa Nets Second Quadruple Of Season
Genoa started the matchweek with a convincing win on the Stream of the Week against Club America, but then was brought back down to Earth following a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Atletico Mineiro. Looking to get back on track, Genoa went up against Torino FC today. In the 15th minute, Genoa got on the scoreboard thanks to an Alberto Costa free kick. Diego Perotti made it 2-0 Genoa just before the half, but Torino wasn't ready to give in just yet. A goal 6 minutes into the second half made it 2-1, and Torino was pushing for an equalizer. Genoa managed to stave off those attacks though, and then added two more goals in the 74th and 84th minutes to make it a 4-1 final. "When we're on, we're on," said Coach Bronc. "We just need to make these performances our norm and then we will be ready to take that title." Genoa finished with 6 points for the week, including two 4-goal performances offensively. "The offense is clicking right now, and they're doing everything right. However, it would be shortsighted of us to think that also don't have room for improvement." On tap next week for Genoa is games against Olympiakos, Stade Rennais, and Sunderland.

Lokomotiv controlled the game from early on but struggled to find shooting lanes. However, the defense stood tall as Málaga didn't tally their first shot attempt until the 75'. In the 80', Manuel Fernandes found a crease in the defense and sprinted through, the ball sticking to his feet like a magnet, until he was one-on-one with the keeper and sent the shot into the upper 90 for the only goal of the match. Lokomotiv secures 3 points in a hard-fought match against a formidable opponent.

Another hard-fought defensive match for Lokomotiv saw them come away with a 1-0 win. After a scoreless first half, Lokomotiv drew a penalty early in the 2nd half, but Boussoufa's PK attempt was sent away by Adrián, thus continuing Lokomotiv's struggles from the spot so far this season. Not long after, the Russian side threw another penalty, giving Boussoufa a chance to redeem himself from the earlier miss. West Ham's keeper chose the right direction once again, but Boussoufa's low kick ricocheted under the GK's body and into the net to give Lokomotiv the only goal of the match.

In the 90', Vitaliy Denisov intercepted a pass to a streaking Enner Valencia, but his attempts to clear the ball were to no avail as Valencia stole the ball back right in front of net, but his shot bounced off the outside of the post, sealing the win for Lokomotiv.
