In the opening match of the SuperCup, it was Lokomotiv who got off to a quick start in the 3rd minute as Alexander Samedov found Mbark Boussoufa in front of net. The shot was saved but the rebound went straight to Oumar Niasse's feet who found himself so open that he could have walked in for the opening score. The goal set the pace early for the match as both sides came out firing on all cylinders. Over the next half, both teams put together great attacking sequences but somehow, neither found the net until the 40' when Aleksandar Mitrović found some space outside the 18 yard box and fired it far post past the keeper to level the match.

The second half, however, belonged to Manuel Fernandes. It started in the 45' as he took a short corner and sent in a low cross to the unlikeliest of targets, Nemanja Pejčinović, who with his back turned to the net, flicked the ball past the keeper and into the net as both Newcastle defenders and Lokomotiv's manager stared in shock at what had just happened. "I've managed this team for 3 seasons now and even I had no idea he was capable of doing that."

Manuel Fernandes' magical 2nd half continued in the 65' as he received a perfect pass from Roman Shishkin and from 25 yards out, placed the ball in the only place he could have, driving it past the closing defenders and away from the diving keeper to cap off Lokomotiv's 3-1 victory.

    Great match JFace907

3rd place games in tournaments typically lack the zest that the other matchups do, but ASSE and Newcastle had other plans. Both sides brought intensity and desire as challenges came in from all parts of the field. The action must have been getting a little too hot for the referee as the first thing that went into his book was a yellow card in the 11th minute to Clement. This was the first stoppage in play, but advantage was allowed on a couple challenges earlier. "To card the first foul you stop the match for is a bit absurd," said the Newcastle manager. "It may have went in our favor, but a yellow that early changes the dynamic of the match. Makes everyone feel like they're walking on eggshells." Jack Colback must not have gotten that same vibe from the game as not 11 minutes later he found himself in the referees book. Newcastle was the least carded team in TSL C this past season, so a card that early definitely came as a shock to the Toon Army. Both sides would shake off the woes of the books and get back to playing football. In the 35th minute Ayoze Perez would find holding midfielder M. Sissoko who took a few touches before rocking a shot from beyond the 18 and into the back of the net and giving Newcastle the 1-0 lead. The two sides would exchange changes with ASSE starting to get closer and closer to equalizing. In the 80th minute the defense finally broke when Krul made a save on the first attempt but Erysseric came charging through the middle of the box on a dead sprint to pick up the garbage of the parry and equalize the scoreline. With a replay looming, Newcastle found themselves with a chance to equalize when Cheick Tiote found himself with space and a clear shooting lane. The Ivorian took the chance but a last minute tackle deflected the ball to the side directly into the path of a more than game Mitrovic. The referees flag was down and the Serbian national slotted the ball home keeping it low and in the corner of the net for the winner. Great game Lou
