    Villarreal CF [2] @ Shakhtar Donetsk [0]

The game started off very slowly for both sides, sort of like two heavy weight boxers feeling each other out in the early rounds. Shakhtar wasn't affording the attacking trio of the yellow subs any space to operate freely, and the frustration in the first half was mounting. Despite maintaining a huge amount of possession for most of the first half it was worthless without the goal. And in the 36th minute, with a bit of fortune, the smallest and shortest man on the field, the mexican, aquino, got on the end of a cross from Pantic, which hit the goalkeeper in the gloves but he could only parry it into his own net. There was some relief in the air for the yellow subs, the hostlie crowd was taking a toll as well as the weather. And sloppy weather makes for sloppy mistakes and villarreal were able to capitalize on a mistake by shakhtars goalkeeper, who after receiving the ball via backpass, made a bad pass straight to tomas pina, and was caught off his line. Tomas pina would make no mistake and smashed in a screamer from 30 yards out into the left corner of the goal to make it 2-0 just before halftime.

The shakhtar fans were stunned but there team was not out of it yet. Villarreals attack sputtered in the second half, and shakhtar was very dangerous. The best keeper for the yellow subs on this night was the left post of the goal, not once, not twice but three times would shakhtar hit that same post and be denied a goal. The smile on goalkeeper sergio asenjo's face during his post match interview said it all. Villarreal were fortunate but a win on the road in a place like shakhtar is always tough to do. :redcard:44' N.Nkoulou

It was a wet, cold night at the Borussia Park.It didn't phase Marseille at the start of the game, they were in Gladbech end for most of the first half but Gladbech came out a head when P.Hurrmann bolted down the right side and crossed it in the box where Kruse found himself alone on the far side of the post to beat the keeper. Before the half ended Raffael took a pass just outside the box with his back to the net and made a quick turn to get a shot off but got tackled hard by Nkoulou which was handed a red card. In the second half,Marseille had a hard time moving forward to get the tying goal. Gladbech had a few chances with Kruse missing an empty net and Marseille keeper making some big saves to keep Marseille in the game but it was to much for the keeper when Gladbech got a lucky bounce when Raffael shot went off a defender right to Kruse which he made no mesake putting hes second goal of the night. Good game. That red card really destroyed my ability to move the ball.
