Rutgers attempts for the perfect 13-0 season in the Allstate Sugar Bowl
    [IMG]
The Scarlet Knights remained perfect throughout the season, did everything they could to try and claw their way into the national title game, but in the end fell just 1 spot short. There isn't much else they could of done however South Carolina and NC State were both worthy teams, and in the end only 2 can play for the title in this messed up BCS system. However the Sugar Bowl is not a bad destination for the Scarlet Knights, as it would give them a great test of skill against the Texas Longhorns. This game looked like it was going to be one of the best bowl games of the year, and it didn't disappoint.
The Scarlet Knights came out in all black uniforms minus the helmets, and the Texas Longhorns come out in all white. Exact polar opposites of each other, just like their playing styles. Rutgers would start with the ball but find it impossible to get anything going and forced to punt the ball away. The Longhorns would score quickly with their air it out offense on a 69 yard TD strike. Rutgers would drive down the field and respond with a field goal, only to give up another touchdown on defense. Just before halftime, Martinek would fumble the football with 4 seconds left while trying to run the clock out to halftime, and the Longhorns recovered and kicked the field goal. For the first time this year, the Scarlet Knights were in a hole and needed somebody to step up. Longhorns up 17-3.
The second half started with the Longhorns receiving the kick off and moving the ball down the field about 20 yards before being stuffed on third down. Martinek and Savage would put together an impressive drive and score their first touchdown of the game to go within striking distance. Texas would respond with another long drive of their own but would be held to a field goal, however going up a crucial 10 points just before the end of the 3rd quarter. Now the running game was going to have to step it up for Rutgers as time was becoming a factor. Tom Savage had been throwing picks all day long 3 total, and was struggling to hit wide open receivers as well. But on the drive after the Longhorns field goal, he played perfect. He was able to find DC Jefferson on a 41 yard TD pass. Rutgers down 3 20-17. After forcing a Longhorns 3 and out and a couple decent passes by Savage, Rutgers found them selves at their own 47 down 3 just over 1 minute left on the clock. Head coach Alemic had trust in his QB Tom Savage, however tried to fool Texas with a run up the middle. Stuffed. The next play Texas went back to defend the pass, but it was not coming, a toss out to the left, Martinek found the sideline and gone. 47 yards to the house Rutgers takes a huge 24-20 lead with just over 1 minute left on the clock. The Longhorns try to drive, end up turning the ball over with 30 seconds left and 3 timeouts. Holding the Scarlet Knights to 4th down, putting all the pressure on San San Te. He drilled the 48 yard field goal putting Rutgers up 7 with 16 seconds left. The Longhorns could not respond. The perfect season had been completed.
    Final Score:
    Rutgers 27 Texas 20
    Key Stats
    Tom Savage 10-21 229 yards 1 TD 3 INT
    Rushing
Joe Martinek 38 attempts 176 yards 2 TD
Tom Savage 2 attempts 35 yards 0 TD
DeAntwan Williams 4 attempts 17 yards 0 TD
Mark Harrison 1 attempt 8 yards 0 TD
Here is to the perfect season at Rutgers, and a so long to Joe Martinek who has played his final game here at Rutgers. He hold the most rushing yards in one season ever at Rutgers and word is he will be inducted into the Scarlet Knights hall of fame in the upcoming months.

Trying man, but schedules have been messed up. I could have done it Friday or Saturday but Cimmy couldn't, and he probably could have done it last night but I couldn't. We'll get it worked out.
