    Niners Top Giants
begin road to .500 with 24-21 victory

A loss to the Dallas Cowboys the previous week all but eliminated the 49ers from playoff contention. Yet, despite the disappointment, the 49ers came ready play against a talented Giants team, making key plays down the stretch to secure victory.

The Niners took a 14-7 lead into halftime as Colin Kaerpernick found TE Delanie Walker for a touchdown with just seconds to go in the half. Then, on the first possession of the third quarter, they would extend the lead on a WR screen pass that Michael Crabtree took to the end zone from 60 yards out.

Now leading 21-7, San Francisco seemed poised to blow the game wide open, but would instead see Eli Manning take over as he skillfully distributed the ball to his receivers. By the end of the quarter, the 14-point Niners lead had evaporated, setting the stage for an intense final stanza.

The San Francisco offense, ineffective for most of the game, continued to sputter before the New York pass rush and would punt the ball away, giving the hometown Giants a chance to take their first lead of the game. It was then that the Niners defense rose to the occasion, forcing a New York fumble that was converted into three points and a 24-21 lead.

The San Francisco defense would not let up and would force two more Giants' turnovers, the last with under two minutes remaining after New York had crossed into San Francisco territory, but was not in field goal range.

Matrix Monkey, Good Game! Your receivers seemed to be wide open at times and luckily some of those just didn't connect. My offense had little success throughout the game and I was feeling the pressure in the pocket at all times.
