Vikings Start 3-0; Get Tough Win in Detroit
    Vikings: 17
    Lions: 14
Detroit, MI - The Vikings came into Week 3 off an OT win versus the 49ers, while their divisional opponent Detroit was looking for their second straight win after a 39-38 thrilling victory over the Panthers in Week 2. Both teams would have their chances in the this one.
Both coaches in this one like to lean on the running game, which made for some long drives for both teams. The Vikings would strike first, as Christian Ponder would hit TE Kyle Rudolph from 9 yards out for the score. The Lions couldn't get much going in the first half, as they were shut out completely on the scoreboard. QB Matt Stafford was sacked three times, and picked off twice in the game. However, the Lions D would keep them in this one until the end. Twice in the first half the Vikings had the ball in the Detroit red zone, and Ponder threw two costly INT's inside the 10. The score at end of 1st half: 7-0 in favor of Vikings.
The Lions would get the ball to start the second half, but were forced to punt. On the next drive, AP finally came out of his shell this season (only had 117 yards through two games; a 2.9 YPC) with a highlight-reel 67-yard TD run to put the Vikings up by 14. The Lions would respond, as they finally got the passing game going. TE Brandon Pettigrew would beat Cover 3 over the middle (the safety took a HORRIBLE angle) and went 65 yards to paydirt. The Vikings would kick a FG to go up 17-7, but the Lions wouldn't back down and would score again early in the 4th on a catch and run by HB LSH. The Vikings were unable to run out the clock, and gave the ball back to the Lions on their own 11 with just under 5 minutes remaining. However, after getting one first down Stafford would be sacked on 1st down and followed it up with three straight incompletions. A couple of first downs and the Vikings were able to kneel to victory.
Great game Anthrax78 - looking forward to the rematch!
