The Carolina Panthers (4-3) squared off at home against the (3-3) Houston Texans in a week 7 slugfest. Houston won the toss and elected to kick. The Panther offense drove the length of the field on a long, deliberate drive, but were stopped short on 3rd and inches and kicked a FG to go up 3-0. After exchanging punts, the disaster struck for Carolina as SS Eric Berry stepped in front of a pass intended for Steve Smith and raced 42 yards for a touch down. Newton and the Panther offense were able to get their offense going again in the second quarter and RB Jonathan Stewart punched in another score from 3 yards out.

In the 2nd half, the Texans really worked to establish Arian Foster, but the Panther defense made life hard for the HOU RB. Running without arguably their 2 best defenders (Jon Beason and Charles Johnson), Carolina got a monster game out of 2nd year LB Luke Kuechly who played in the middle during Beason's absence. Kuechly was all over the field and finished with 10 tackles on the day. But the biggest story of the day for Carolina were the turnovers that they were able to force. Matt Schaub finished the day surrendering 2 sacks and throwing 4 interceptions, 2 of which were caught by 2nd round rookie CB Russell Chisolm. The Texans also had a disaster punt return in which their PR called for a fair catch, but dropped the ball which was recovered by Carolina.

On offense Cam Newton hit 7 different receivers on the day with TE Greg Olsen (6 rec, 84 yards) and WR Steve Smith (3 rec, 41 yards, TD) leading the way. Though Newton could not find room for major yardage (14-22 144 yards), he was able to keep the chains moving and hit his checkdown when there was nothing open downfield. Up next, the Panthers travel to the Big Easy to face off against the hated rival Saints.
