Raiders Overcome Five Pryor Interceptions and Beat Chiefs 51-28

The Raiders and Chiefs first faced off a few weeks ago with the Raiders coming out on top 51-31 after outscoring the Chiefs 41-10 after be down by 11. With the Chiefs still in playoff contention and the Raiders hoping to lock up a bye week, both teams had something to play for late in the season.
In the first meeting, Pryor threw 3 INTs, but had 4 TD passes, this week, Pryor had issues throwing against the Chiefs again and threw 5 INTS for the day and didn’t make it to 100 yards passing. Pryor threw 15 passes and all 15 passes were caught, except five of them were caught by the Chiefs and the turnovers were set-up great opportunities for the Chiefs throughout the game. The Chiefs struck first in the 1st quarter as Manning who had 7 picks in the first meeting hit Baldwin for an early TD lead. The Raiders responded which they have done pretty much all season driving down the field behind McFadden helping the offense get into Chiefs territory. Pryor capped off the drive with a 31 yard TD throw to Criner. Criner now has two catches and two TDs this year, very effective. The score was 7-7 going into the 2nd quarter.

The 2nd quarter saw much action as the Chiefs continuously drove down the field, but at times the Raiders forcing some stops in key possession to prevent scoring drives. The Chiefs had many opportunities near the 50 yard line with the Raiders making key 3rd down stops. The problem for the Raiders, Pryor kept turning the ball over giving the Chiefs great field possession and Manning finally took advantage and getting the Chiefs to the 1 yard line with precise passing. Dupont took the ball in for the 1 yard plunge giving the Chiefs a 14-7 lead. Jacoby Ford who has been back a few weeks from injury struck again and returned another kickoff for 103 yards to tie the score up. The momentum was back on the Raiders side with Ford’s fifth return of the season. However, Manning was having a great game and avoided INTs unlike their first meeting drove down the field and hit Baldwin again for another score to give the Chiefs a 21-14 lead. After another INT by Pryor with about 2 minutes left in the half, the Chiefs was able to drive down the field and got into the redzone of the Raiders. The Chiefs had an opportunity to go up at least 10 or 14 points at about the 15 yard line with 15 seconds left in the half. The Raiders had noticed Manning looking for his RBs out of the backfield regularly and Curry jumped the pass attempt to the RB and raced down the field for an 89 yard INT return to tie the score up 21-21 at the end of the half. This was essentially the backbreaker of the game as momentum clearly shifted to the Raiders.

In the 3rd quarter after another Pryor pick, the Raiders defense showed up again getting some stops on the Chiefs. The Raiders were able to get pressure in the 2nd half which helped the defense get four sacks and 3 INTs on Manning. The Raiders then went on a time killing 15 play scoring drive behind the running of McFadden and Taiwan Jones. This was pure run at the Chiefs and dared them to stop the running game and unfortunately, the Chiefs couldn’t. Taiwan Jones capped the 15 play drive with a 1 yard TD plunge to give the Raiders the 28-21 lead going into the 4th.

With all the momentum on the Raiders now, a breakdown in the defense by Branch allowed Manning to hit Baldwin for an 80 yard TD which was his third of the game to tie the score with a full quarter left to play. With three defenders in the area, Branch mistimed the jump and Baldwin took it to the house, potential back breaker for the Raiders who had just got some momentum. Fortunately for the Raiders, they have McFadden and he exploded on the very next possession taking it 76 yards for the TD. With stops by the Raider defense, the McFadden tacked on 22 and 30 TD yard runs to finish off the game with a safety on Manning mixed in there. McFadden had three TDS and ran for over 100 yards alone in the 4th quarter.

The Raiders stayed on pace for a 1st round bye while the Chiefs are essentially eliminated from playoff contention.

Ya, Branch is quite the sissy getting tacked like that by Manning. Got crushed.
