    S2 Week 2 Summaries

SMU holds off rival TCU 28-23.

It looked like another runaway early on in Gerald Ford Stadium. SMU came firing jumping out to a 21-0 lead early into the second qtr. TCU's defense would spark the team with an 18 yrd fumble return for six with the offense chipping in a FG before the half. SMU was still happy going into halftime with a 21-10 lead over their rivals.

TCU cut into the lead some more with a 8 yd TD pass early into the third. Both teams offenses sputtered in the 2nd half. SMU capitalized off some good field position set up by an interception with a 7 yd TD pass early in the 4th to go up 28-17. With the D still playing very well it was up to the offense to chew the clock...not happening. TCU comes up with another scoop and score off a SMU fumble, this time taking 59 yds.

T CU is stopped short on the 2 pt try. SMU is forced to punt with 3 min left setting up a chance for TCU to take its first lead. Curiously, TCU decides to go for a FG down 5 with 2 min remaining. The 52 yd try has plenty of leg but sails wide left. SMU takes over and is able to run out the clock.

SMU moves to 2-0 for the year.

Houston beats #22 Kansas St 38-28 in a wild one.

Things started off really bad for the Cougs as they had 3 INT's in there first 4 possesions, Then on K-States first possession after a 40 yd run the HB fumbles only to be picked up by his WR and ran another 40+ yds for a TD things were looking bleak to say the least as K-State was up 21-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. Houston defense which played stellar most of the game kept it close as The Cougs battled back to go in the half down 21-17.

First Houston TD of the game 69 yd pass play to Edwards

The Cougars would keep up the good play scoring a TD in the 3rd quarter and the 1st TD of the 4th quarter to take a 31-21 lead before K-State would answer with a 35 yd S Smith TD reception. HB Bryce Beall would seal the deal for Houston late in the game with a 29 yd TD run to make the final 38-28.

The defense of Stanford big in the game, especially on third down as they held the Rockets to 4 of 15(26%) on the third down conversions.
