Vikings Get Outplayed; Pull Out Victory in OT
    Vikings: 27
    49ers 24
Week 2's Game of the Week featured the 1-0 49ers playing at home versus the defending Super Bowl Champion Vikings, who were also 1-0 after a dominating performance versus the Bears in Week 1. This was slated to be a defensive battle, and would prove to be a chess match that needed an extra quarter of play to decide the outcome.
The Vikings would strike first, as they capitalized on three straight Play Action plays to start the game, getting a sack on the third one by newly-acquired DT Henry Melton that was picked up by Kevin Williams who rumbled 45+ yards to paydirt to put the Vikes up 7-0. The 9ers would answer, however, and moved up the field with ease on last year's #1 ranked defense. After a Patrick Willis INT of QB Christian Ponder, the 9ers would put together another nice drive that ended with 7 points to put them up 14-7, this one on a 3rd and Goal run from Frank Gore (who would score twice on the day). However, the Vikings would answer on the very next play as Percy Harvin would take the kickoff 102 yards for the score to tie up the game 14. The teams would each tack on another FG. Score at half was tied 17-17.
Both teams really stepped their D game up in the second half, as it truly became a chess match between these two top coaches. Neither could get a running game going. AP had one of the worst games of his young career - just 39 yards on 24 carries. Frank Gore didn't do much better - just 48 yards on 22 carries, but did get the two scores. Neither team scored in the 3rd quarter, but the Vikings would take back the lead in the 4th on a Ponder pass to WR Emmanual Sanders. After a 3 and out by the 9ers, and less than 3 minutes left on the clock, the Vikings needed to pick up just one or two first downs to seal the game. However, the 9er D came up huge on a 3rd and 1; stuffing FB Jerome Felton forcing the Vikings to punt. The 49er offense would capitalize with another chance, as Frank Gore scored his 2nd TD of the game with just 11 seconds left.
The 9ers would get the ball first in OT, but would not pick up a single first down. The Vikings got great field position, picked up a couple of first downs as AP finally got something going, and won it on a FG after just a couple of offensive plays in the OT period.
Great Game Boom29. I plan on seeing you again in the playoffs.
3-0 now in OT games for coach JSimms; let's hope that kind of stress doesn't continue!! As always, had a blast playing a TLY game...

Good game. I kept telling myself before the game to not give up easy points, and then you get the defensive TD and the KO return TD. The KO return TD in particular was hard to digest because your offense had not done anything to that point. In overtime, I was playing too conservative. You made the right plays at the right time and AP got like 15 of his yards in OT to get you into safe FG range. Good game again. Look forward to (hopefully) a future match up in the playoffs ;)
