UNC Defense Holds VT In Check

This was a big win for UNC, against their first conference opponent of the season. Several key recruits came to campus for a visit, including a TE also interested in VT. The Hokies would win the coin toss and decided to get the ball first. Disaster struck as Leal got sacked for the second time in a row on second and long, he coughed up the ball and DE Justin Thomason scooped it up and stumbled down field for 52 yards and a defensive TD. That would set the tone for this game, and things never got much better for VT. They did manage one TD on the day, after converting a 4th and 3 from their own 35, they went on to score with as Colemon walked right by the defense on a sweep. Unfortunately VT would not find the scoreboard the rest of the game.

UNC could never get the run game going against VT's tough defensive line, but Trubisky had his best game yet, absolutely torching the Hokie secondary. His effort and the strong defensive performance put on by UNC was enough to keep the hungry Hokies at bay. GG Bulldog and gl the rest of the way.

    #4 TCU 35
    #16 Oklahoma St 28

Oklahoma St. was the only team to beat TCU out last season and they did their best to upset the Horned Frogs again. The OK State team started the game off 7-0 and after forcing Boykin into a pick, would score again with 1:14 left in the half. Boykin would recover though and find Brandon Carter on a few passes, including the 15 yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 14-7. In the 2nd half, TCU would receive and have a great drive going before Boykin threw a pick 6 to allow OK St. to go up 21-7. Boykin would recover though and Brandon Carter would outrun his defender for a 61 yard TD reception to cut the game to a 1 score lead again. OK St would respond on a nice run by their FB who had great acceleration and took it for a touchdown from about 45 yards out to go up 28-14. This would be the last time the Oklahoma St. team would score though as TCU would finally play like the #4 team in the country. Boykin would drive his team down then QB sneak it in from 1 yard out. The next OK St. possession, JW Walsh was picked off and TCU would have great field position. BJ Catalon would take it in on a nice run from 15 yards out and just like that, we were tied. The TCU defense forced a quick 3 and out and Boykin would drive his team down to the 1 yard line again and punch it in himself to give the Horned Frogs a 35-28 lead. The TCU defense would allow OK St. to drive down, running the clock, but would end up picking off the Cowboys at the 5 yard line. TCU would pick up a few first downs from that point and allow Boykin to kneel the ball out and escape with a big home win. TCU was very lucky to win this game.

    Trevon Boykin 23/27 344 yards 2 TD 2 INT 2 rushing TD

BJ Catalon 12 rushes 125 yards 1 TD

Brandon Carter 6 rec 141 yards 2 TD

    Virginia 24

Miami improved to 5-0 with this big win over a quality Virginia squad. Ryan Williams had a career day going 21-27 324 yards 3 TDs and 1 INT. Add into that Duke Johnson's 150 on the ground and a defense that forced 4 interceptions and 2 sacks and you couldn't have asked for a more convincing win.
